[Best Buy] Acer Predator Orion 3000 Gaming PC (Intel Ci7-10700/1TB HDD/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/NVIDIA RTX 2060 $1599

Is this a good deal? I am looking to buy gaming system for my son. I think video card is RTX2060 super since it has 8GB.

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/ac ... 0/14760370

I don't want to custom build. Suggestions welcomed.

Trust me. Do not buy any RTX 2XXX at this moment.

RTX 3XXX series is out and much better than RTX 2XXX series. It should be available very soon.

The 3070 will be close to a 2080ti for the same price
And rdna 2 will be even better for performance per watts too

Because the new 3000 series was release not long ago. With pretty decent performance gains over their 2000 counterparts ranging anywhere from 30-80% based on various tests.

Low stock now of those new cards means the market hasn’t shifted but the minute nvidia ramps up production you can bet that 2000 cards will drop sharply in price.

Also I don’t want to be the guy that hates on prebuilt cause some are decent value but remember prebuilt usually sacrifice quality of the motherboard and PSU to bring down prices.

For the specs, with current prices? It doesn't seem *horrible*, price-wise, for a pre-built. But I guess it depends on if you need to buy *right now* or if you can afford to wait a little bit.

wait why is this posted in hot deals when the poster doesn't even know if it is a good deal or not? This should be in shopping discussion forums...

honestly, its not a bad deal if you need a PC right now

Of course if you can wait 2+ months, 3000 series or RDNA 2 is no

Proprietary Acer crap. The acer motherboard fried after I bought an Acer desktop last year...3 months into owning it. Because I had taken out a HD and swapped it with a 2gb nvme they wouldn’t warranty it. I thought I’d switch out the motherboard with another one, when low and behold, all proprietary parts with proprietary Acer plugs. Only way to fix was to order that particular motherboard from the states ($200+shipping 2 weeks+duties) After paying 1k for it, I literally ended up throwing it out. Re-used a few parts in my new build, but I’ll never make the mistake of buying proprietary Acer garbage again. Believe me...socially distance from this one about 2km.

Warm deal atm. But unless you really need a new pc, better to hold off until the 3xxx start flooding the market over the next few months.

You'll either get a deeper discount or buy the newer cards launching for better performance.

Watch out with the RTX 3080s, a bunch of the partner cards have issues where they crash to desktop and the current theory is related to some power modules on the board.

That being said, the founder's edition seems fine.

Anyway point is people are hyped about them and though they offer some nice performance gains it's probably worth waiting a bit.

A downside to buying this is if you decide to make any upgrades to this in the future you will probably have to swap out the power supply since it's only 500 watts. I would at least go with a 600-650 watts for gaming build.

I believe thats only for people who overclock and that had something to do with cheaper parts being used, which suffered from electrical noise. I think this issue is neglectable for 95 percent of the people, as most wouldn't even bother.
