[Best Buy] Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet 32 GB memory 2 GB RAM (2019 version) $140 + Free Shipping - Available online

*** This is the 2019 version with 2 GB of RAM. (Thanks to "stephroll" for pointing this out.) That's the one I bought and I like it. The new version (2021) has 3 GB of RAM but goes for around $200. There was no 2020 version. ***

Extensive information especially from "redflagdealsguy" in this RFD thread from last week:

amazon-ca-fire-hd-10-2021-159-99-prime- ... s-2479171/

If you are in the market for a tablet, you should consider buying an Amazon Fire tablet. Arguably, you get a better product for less money because Amazon subsidize their tablets and lock you into the Amazon environment hoping you will buy other services like Amazon music, Kindle books, Amazon Prime Videos, Audible audiobooks, Whole Foods Market, etc.

But you can easily break free of the Amazon environment and turn your tablet into something closer to a regular Android tablet, by using Fire Toolbox to “de-Amazon” it without having to root your tablet. You can remove the Amazon ads, install the Google Play store or others like the Aurora store, etc. You will then be able to install any other app even if it is not part of the Amazon environment like Chrome, Netflix, etc.

This is the 2019 version with 2 GB of RAM. (Thanks to "stephroll" for pointing this out.) That's the one I bought and I like it. The new version (2021) has 3 GB of RAM but goes for around $200.

If you're going to spend that cash, don't buy a old version.

They won't get software updates as long as the newer ones, obviously.

If you de-Amazon it, you won't get any OS updates and you don't need that anyway. It will stay on a modified Android 9 (Amazon 7 OS) and it's going to be enough security for a long time. The security is mostly integrated in the apps programming. The tablet will be dead or obsolete long before you can't install secure apps anymore.

For example, Google has said recently that it will no longer support Gmail, YouTube, etc. on Android... 2.3.7! Version 2.3.7 was released in September of 2011. It's going to be a long time before Android 9 is not supported anymore.

People worry too much about OS security updates and then post all sorts of private info over their social networks.

This tablet is mostly a media streaming device.

Yeah, this is wrong.

Run the Fire Toolbox and it flies on light and medium apps.

It's a mediocre gaming tablet, but you knew that.

For the 2019 version, $140 isn't bad, especially in Canada.

Worth considering for light media, emails, light browsing, and documents.

Especially since there was no 2020 version.

Based on me having owned it. I got it for $110 and wouldn't even recommend it at that for casual use. Cool your jets Karen, people are allowed to have opinions that differ from yours

I've used the Samsung A7 (same performance), the S6 Lite (faster), and the S7 and S7+ (faster).

@clseea's tastes place him into a higher-end tier of tablets, the S6 starts at $380 on sale, and up to $1000 or more for the S7 series.

This Amazon tablet matches the performance of the Samsung A7, which hovers between $220 and $250. This particular 2019 unit has 2GB of RAM vs 3GB, but it's unmatched at this price, so kudos to OP.

There are 3GB and 4GB models in the 2021 as well, so you have a spectrum of choices.

My tastes aren't for higher end tablets. Very random of you

Not by choice perhaps, but your performance expectations don't align with mid-tier Android tablets generally.

This space has improved in recent years, and I'm content with Amazon's offerings.

In fact, I'm posting a second HD 10 thread shortly, to further enrich the discussion.

The Fire HD 10 is the Honda CRV of tablets: affordable, reasonable performance, reliable, well-supported.

If you think it's 'slow even for casual use' then you reveal your performance expectations.

I get it, you're upset someone disagrees with your deal. I'm not trolling, I'm stating my opinion based on real world usage over nearly 18 months. Grow up.

Even though your insults show your maturity level, I'll try to help you anyway: did you de-Amazon it with the Firetoll box or it's bloated with lots of garbage?
