NOT SMR? Interesting....

Not that I can change directions now.
I'm sitting on 16x 8TB WDs waiting on 8 more.

Tempting, but I think I'll hold out to see what Black Friday has to offer.
An RFDer and his credit card number are soon parted.

if it's 10TB BarraCuda Pro ST10000DM0004, seems to be CMR which is very close to PMR.

Looks like a nice drive to upgrade my Unraid parity drive and perhaps add another while I'm at it. I doubt we'll see any better deals on drives on BF or at least not by a significant margin. Thanks for posting.

8TB externals go for around $150 on sale ($18.75/TB), this is quite a bit more expensive than that ($22.90/TB) but not a bad deal for 10TB, especially if there is a decent PMR Barracuda drive inside.

We're close enough to Black Friday now that I'd suggest anyone not desperately needing a HDD wait a month - then just pull the drive out of the enclosure and pop it in your PC.

Good point. I haven't seen any decent shuckable 8TB drives for $150 lately though. Have there been any I missed?

Same here, just holding for Black Friday, and see how it gets.

I'm scared of Seagate drives. I had nothing but deaths with them. I can't say they are bad, but this was my experience.

No drive can be trusted. Magnetic media should never be relied on. As long as you back up the stuff you care about, you'll not have to worry about brand/questionable statistics.

hostoric low for 8TB version was $160, so 10TB should be be around 190 to count as a good deal

$230 is a bit high, but stil acceptable

And by 8TB version I assume you mean not a SMR drive either? In that case, I think I'll hold off. I'd be just as happy with a few 8TB drives as long as they aren't SMR.

I do not know, I haven't had a chance to open it up to check the HDD version

unfortunately only magnetic technology currently has the capacity that is affordable. How much would unlimited storage on cloud cost?
