[Best Buy] ASUS - AC3100. PM at staples $207

Best Buy has the ASUS 3100 for $229.99

Price match with Staples.
Use business code: 65943 (expires Oct 13), save extra 10%

Price 206.99 + tax. Very close to Black Friday sale prices but today (usually goes down to $200 but I have never seen lower)...

Reliability is a massive problem with ASUS. Customer service doesn’t exist.

Top 5 Consumer Router, still.
......the numbers still indicate different models, so yes they do matter.

I hve the 86u and it is junk. Who knows maybe I just got a lemon. Tried three times to generate an rma with no luck. Called in and was on hold for forty minutes. Ending up going to the service center in Markham. I advise anyone looking for a router to pick another company. If you enjoy frustration and long wait times. Then ASUS is the company for you.

Exactly, after going through 2 linksys and 2 asus routers in a span of 3 years... and getting a netgear r7000 thats been rock solid the last 5 years ... Not upgrading to anything except netgear

p.s. had the asus ac68u and i think acus74??? junk

What's a good router out of the box for someone like me?

I just want good coverage & speed.

FYI folks, I had a second RT86U waiting to be deployed in Niagara, since that's put on hold for now. I opened the wrapping this morning, plugged it in, and had my main router train it to be a mesh device in 4.6 minutes start to finish.

Now I have (2x) RT86Us deployed in this office. Don't really need the extra coverage, but at peak, we have 30 to 50 devices, so it doesn't hurt.

From my talk with the service technician at ASUS. He said the 86U would only be suitable for a condo. Anything more than that he recommended something in the 5000 series.

Yes, he's recommending you maximize ASUS shareholder value. I do the same when I pitch.

I had one 86U running an office of 30 to 50 devices (workstations, printers, IP devices, phones, etc.). It's a beast. I just now added a second meshed 86U for spitz and giggles, until it's needed offsite.

These reps are hilarious.

I have an 86u and I agree with @redflagdealsguy.

I will say this, if you are not in need of a router right now, I'd hold for WiFi 6 for a better upgrade and future proofing. The new Intel Ice Lake 10th generation mobile CPUs have WiFi 6 built in so you'll start to see more demand and thus more WiFi 6 router options out there.

That said my 86u as the master in my AIMesh is absolutely a stellar performer, maxing out my 600mbps line with QOS enabled and managing it's two attached mesh slaves.

Customer service isn't that bad.
Last year I had to send my AC-86u in for a replacement and only had to pay shipping to their GTA service centre.

This is pretty much a 4-port version of the AC88u, I have one running Merlin firmware as my main router. 3 years with no issues so far, longest uptime was about a year

If you need link aggregation, 3100 have that option. 86 does not.

One thing to consider if you have a NAS that support LA.
