[Best Buy] ASUS PN50 Mini PC - Now $429.95

It's back and at an even better price. I bought two at the previous $499 price and got a price match done. I added an older 1TB SSD without issue. Seems to run fine. Some complain about the fan noise but I got used to it and it doesn't run at full speed the whole time. I have a business grade HP laptop from work that runs louder.

I contemplated getting a mini PC like this a while back, but opted for refurb micro computer instead. Better build quality and more room for expansion. The Dell OptiPlex Micro and Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny computers are great little systems and can often be found in good condition for around the same price or much less. For example, I found a ThinkCentre M920q with i7-9700T with 16GB RAM AND 500GB NVMe drive for around $450 last month.

Just sharing another option for people looking for a mini/micro computer.

There is an empty slot for RAM and for a 2.5” drive.

I swear there's a mini PC or Tiny PC deal every week.

And every week I debate about whether I should get another one (I already have a Lenovo Tiny PC for the tv)... Smiling Face With Open Mouth And Cold Sweat

PC industry evolves much faster than Intel dominant era. Don't buy if not urgent. One may expect a performance jump in every 6~ 9 months.

Its upgradeable... you can do it yourself, also it wouldn't cost 250$ like apple, maybe like 10$
😎Thanks RFD😎

Would these be good for running a plex server?

These miniPCs are great little home lab/server machines. I have a NUC (similar to this box in OP) with 64gb ram and 2TB ssd upgraded and I use it for all kinds of stuff. It can also be used as a Plex server if needed along with other stuff.

Preferably stick with Intel integrated graphics vs. AMD's. Plex supports Intel's Quicksync for transcoding.

What's the processor. There are lots of Ryzen 4000 processors.

Thanks for the post OP.

Is the PN50 for $429 better or the Apple M2 Mac mini with student discount for $669, as per the other post on RFD? I dont want to pay the extra $250 to upgrade to 16GB ram on the Apple. I've read 25 pages of the thread and seems there was no definable answer on

I have very limited computer hardware knowledge so not sure. Can anyone help me decide or share your opinion? Both have 8gb and 256gig storage. PN50 has expandability but the Apple probably has a better chip. PN50 has SD slot and more USB ports, Apple has thunderbolt. I'm probably overlooking other factors. I know going from Windows to MacOS will be a big jump but I'll just be using it for general task like reading emails, surfing the web and managing photos. Also I have a Samsung phone so not in the Apple ecosystem.

Thanks

Just needs to come down $100 more and I’ll possibly think about maybe buying it when it goes down another hundred after that
