[Best Buy] Asus Wireless Routers RT-AX86u $279, GT-AX6000 $319, RT-AX88u $249, RT-AX86s $179

A number of Asus wireless routers now on sale:

RT-AX86u is much sought after, and is well regarded. Has 1x 2.5Gb port.

GT-AX6000 is a step up with faster processor, and 1x 2.5Gb WAN port and 1x 2.5Gb LAN port. It is probably the best dual band router out there, but will soon by replaced by tri-band routers.

RT-AX88u has 8 ports LAN, but no 2.5Gb ports. Older hardware than RT-AX86u despite the model name suggested otherwise.

RT-AX86s is a budget choice, no 2.5Gb port, half the memory and half the cores.

Other Asus routers on sale:
ROG GT-AX11000 $399, ROG GT-AXE16000 $799, XT8 2-pack $379, XD-6 2-pack $219, RT-AX92u 2-pack $299

Has anyone setup an AiMesh configuration with an RT-AX86U as the primary and a RT-AX86S node?

My current setup is an RT-AX86U primary and a RT-AC86U node with Ethernet backhaul. I have been thinking of upgrading the node so I’m wondering if this unit would be a suitable upgrade.

My primary is the RT-AX86u. For a back up router, which one would you pick? RT-AX82U or RT-AX86S?

Asus should think about streamline their model number.
Ax-88 older than ax-86, and the 92 less powerful than the 86, really Asus?

I've had some bad luck with an ac86u. My original one ended up being bricked after 2.5 years out of the blue similar to the link below accept I did not do any firmware update. I woke up one morning and the only one red light was on. I called tech support and they stated to send it in but it was out of warranty. Would have cost more than the cost of the router to fix.

I bought a brand new one from Staples last xmas and it completely died (no power) and I was fortunate I was able to return on the last day of return during the massive GTA earlier this year.

I may just bit the bullet and get another AX86u as it has been rock solid since I used as a primary. Just that I don't want to just have another $300+ sitting collecting dust just in case. Tough decision as I noticed that after xmas, these routers end up OOS and back to regular price.

I had two failed on me as a result of the 2.4Ghz chip dying, but couldn’t pass up when they went on sale for $150.
So far as mesh nodes with the AX-86u, they are working fine.

Yeah, I paid $149.99 as well. I guess it is really hit and miss with any electronics.

AX86U lowest was $249 and AX6000 $379, where have you see them cheaper recently? Genuinely interested.

I want the AX6000, not because I need 2.5G ethernet, or the faster CPU, but only because if it is the newest of ASUS AX router lineup.

For the initial AX router releases, Asus or any brand would most likely to have some hiccups judging from my past experience.... thus I would avoid those early release routers for 802.11AX

That's what I have now AX86U as primary and two AX86S as node on 2nd floor and basement. Nodes are connected with ethernet cables. Works well as you don't need AX86U for the nodes or at least I cannot justify the extra cost.

Which one is best for Bell 1.5G internet connection? The Bell HUB 4000 has been located far away, due to the Bell box, and LAN cable connection is not viable.

It's been as low as $189 for the AX86U and $249 for the AX6000 at both Staples and Amazon

This was a few weeks to a month ago. So I'm sure they'll drop back to that price in the new year. If you do a little digging I'm sure you'll see it somewhere
