Genuine question, not crapping on this deal at all - but what are people doing with home networking that require $400 routers like this?

would like to know as well.. $400 is a lot of dough.. can buy the Ubiquiti Edgerouter + wireless access point with cash remaining

WiFi 6 is your answer. It's one of the very few routers that supports 802.11ax.

That doesn't really answer his question though - why do you need such high speeds for a home network?
I don't think many people will benefit from AX speeds at the moment, unless maybe if you need to stream multiple 4K video streams to multiple devices. Even in this use case, I think the higher AC speeds will suffice.
