According to the official specs of my 2018 laptop, the DVD drive is called "legacy optical format support"...

I was looking at one to replace my old one and a Blu Ray/4K portable is quite expensive. The DVD drive would come in handy for legacy software and many of my old discs that were used as storage. I'll have to look into it...

When I looked on Amazon, there were a bunch of blu ray ones for around $85-$100. Didn’t look too closely at capabilities or ratings etc.

I heard it this morning, and not from this thread. I have literally thousands of discs, many made with my old DVD recorders and containing my collection of recordings that I now have people fighting over online. Plus the stuff that was archived from even older media like 5.25" and 3.5" discs and CDs. This will allow me to rip the discs for video and copy the other files so they can be kept in the cloud hopefully before they vanish forever. Just need more time...haroldliang wrote: ↑ Now that's a word I've never heard of in a long time.

Had to read a DVD for work last year. After 2h hours of runing in circles and jumping trough hoops I brought the DVD home to read in on my personal laptop and transfer it to a USB key.
What's a computer ?!?
