[Best Buy] Dell G5 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Ryzen 5 4600H/256GB SSD/8GB RAM/Radeon RX 5600M - $1099

Saw this in the Bestbuy flyer, but really haven't heard too much about the RX 5600M GPU.
Don't see many offerings with a dedicated AMD graphics chip.
Bestbuy says $100 off ($200 off the Dell website price) which isn't a huge discount, but from the reviews I looked up, it seems like a decent deal for a laptop with a solid CPU and a GPU that seems on par with a GTX 1660Ti.
Display seems OK for the price range, nothing special, but there's worse out there.
It also doesn't look quite as 'gamer' as the ASUS and Acer options, which is a good thing if I'd like to use it for work.
Thinking about pulling the trigger, but wondering if there's any feedback out there I should know about.

Here is a detailed review of the same model but with higher spec and a Ryzen 7-4800H
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Going-all ... 090.0.html

Overall they seemed to like the model and the price/spec ratio but cooling seems to be a weak point.

1100$ for an GTX1660ti / GTX1070 / RTX 2060 Max-Q level of performance is quite nice. Not the best amazing deal ever but still quite nice.
Definitly get a second SSD though because 256Gb is not gonna go far when you download games.

Can you upgrade the RAM? Not sure if 8GB is going to up hold in the future, I doubt it even holds up today

Pretty sure you can. The G series is their gaming versions below Alienware etc. I think for this it is 32gb officially and 64gb unofficially.

As for OP, just be glad it is Best Buy and you can return or exchange if you have any issues. Dell itself has some of the worst customer service in the modern industry.

If this was a 2x8GB RAM config everyone would go nuts.

Price is fairly hot due to the 5600m, which should operate just under a gtx 2060. I'd like to see build quality though, it looks like pretty plastic junk.

Not a bad deal for the specs. Would of pulled the trigger if there was a 10% cash back.

RAM is probably upgradeable. Respectable deal.

It's of course a strong build, it's the form factor that kills it for someone looking to use it in highly portable environments.

Otherwise strong as a cheap desktop replacement.

The Ryzen 4600H is a monster CPU as well.

Thanks OP.

10/100 ethernet? If that's accurate this is a terrible laptop.

Well it's almost for sure a typo and has gigabit, but also that's not really as big a deal for most users as you might think. Depends on your needs but if it's just internet then it wouldn't make much of a difference.

If this isn't a typo it's indded a crappy network card but then again it also has a Wifi6 AX1650 wireless card and more and more laptops are removing the network jack alltogether.

This laptop has been on sale for almost 3 weeks now. I've had my eye on it since it first went on sale. I might end up pulling the trigger, but we'll see. I'd love to actually see it in person though. The Best Buy right by my house supposedly has it in stock, but it's not on display. The only thing really holding me back is the 15.6" screen. My laptop is 17" right now, and while I hated it at first, the extra size is both noticeable and useful.

I bought this laptop almost a month ago.
I upgraded the RAM and installed an additional NVME(1TB). Adding a normal SATA 2.5 drive requires an extra holder and connector from Dell.
It is fast and the AMD RX5600M is quite capable, I am getting around 80 fps on Tomb Raider The Path home, and in GTA 5 I am getting 70-80 fps on the highest settings.
The drivers were totally screwed up when I got it, it would reboot after 10 minutes of playing as it overheats, that was solved by installing the AMD RADEON drivers not the DELL drivers for the RX5600M. Now it is stable and amazingly fast.
The only bad thing is the build finish which is plastic-like!

Hello,

I am looking to buy this laptop. Can anyone here who has bought this share their experience with it please? How is this for everyday use? And for gaming? I heard it gets hot. The storage is putting me off from pulling the trigger on this. How hard is it to upgrade the storage by yourself? I have built many desktop PCs in the past but I have never opened up a laptop before.

Also, since this is an Open Box. Is there going to be any cosmetic or other damage to the laptop?

Thanks.
