[Best Buy] Honeycomb Alpha flight control $314

Warmish deal on the Alpha flight control since it's regular price seems to sit around $349. You might be able to price match with memory express for an extra few dollars off.

Sold by a 3rd party seller. not Best Buy direct. The seller's description: "WE SELL COMPUTER HARDWARE AND REFURBISHED COMPUTER AND REFURBISHED LAPTOP."

Pass.

Yeah but then you need rudder pedals and throttle and it becomes a money pit.
Good luck finding a Bravo quadrant in stock anywhere.
The simulator software isn't cheap either.

Yeah, but like any hobby, if you have the desire and the money, you know what you're getting into. A CH USB Throttle quadrant will work fine.

Agreed on the bravo, want one so bad.

MSFS2020 is on Gamepass for those looking for the software tho.

Not even remotely the case. I've been using an xbox controller with MSFS2020 and even that's worked well. Tons of people here are already on gamepass which includes MSFS2020.

I'm just sour because I recently paid the scalper price on Amazon for the Bravo after waiting months with stock alerts on every site that sold them.
Originally bought the Alpha for $329 from Costco when it was posted here, and bought Premium Deluxe edition before it was available on Gamepass.

Agreed, just sharing my experience so others know what they are getting into. I bought a Logitech/Saitek throttle while waiting for the Bravo.

If anyone is wanting to get into the hobby now, I'd wait for this to come out https://www.turtlebeach.com/pages/velocity-one-flight
Looks like a good value to me.

For anyone who needs a HOTAS, i'd wait a bit longer and wait for this garbage "pandemic" pricing to subside. Same situation with the video card nonsense.

There's going to be a lot of used cheap HOTAS on the market when everyone gets back to what they were able to do before

My Dad is in his 60's, loves aviation but the last time he had a flight simulator was in the 80's. He still loves toys but is a Mac guy now and never really splurges on himself anymore. If I was to buy him a rig to get up and running, what budget and hardware would you anyone recommend?

The Alpha Yoke has been in-stock at various retailers for awhile now. The Bravo Throttle has been impossible to find. I've been on the pre-order waiting list for the Bravo at avworld since September 2020. I hope these finally get re-stocked by fall.

Let him try MS2020 and Xplane and see which one he feels has better real flight physics. Then figure out what types of planes he flies, if he's into fighters, no need for a yoke. If he does want to go with airliners or smaller planes, Honeycomb is my go-to setup. I was able to get a throttle last year and already had the yoke. You are looking at close to $800 with rudder control, you will need a lot of real estate on your setup desk. In terms of a CPU, I have a ryzen 3700x with a 3080ti, I had a 3060 and it was horrible when playing MSFS2020. Make sure you get him connected to VATSIm (free) with that you will need a headset but will have the ability to have live ATC. It's incredible flying in the Vatsim environment. No matter what, getting your dad a newer flight sim will make his day! Huge difference from the 80's. Good on you for looking after him!!

You don't require the bravo throttle quad for this to work. It will work with any throttle quadrant until you decide to update to the bravo. This yoke is top of the line, much better than the saitek offering. The software isn't cheap either but that's neither here nor there. The deal is on the yoke. Sim enthusiasts know how much simulators cost (and why).

First time seeing this, and does seem like a great value. Turtle Beach has a trusted reputation as well so let's hope that this is a quality product. That will light a fire under some hardware manufacturers asses to being prices down. That throttle quadrant is beautiful. Love that it has levers for jets and knobs for cessnas/props.

Agree. Pandemic pricing was two or even threefold for HOTAS and sim hardware because everyone was at home/grounded and wanted a way to experience flight and stay current while cooped up. Microsoft flight sim 2020 launched during the beginning of the whole pandemic shitstorm, increasing demand for hardware even more. Add to that that the pandemic slowed down production of the already scarcely produced hardware and you have the perfect recipe for overpriced stuff. I reckon you're right and once people go back to work and flying for real, this stuff will find its way to Kijiji, FB market, and sim forums.
