[Best Buy] Honeywell AirGenius5 Air Purifier ($220)

Link if the above doesn't work

Great air purifier, works well. Looks very nice in the home if that matters to you. The sleep mode is very quiet it doesn't bother me. The light on the bottom is stylish and acts as a night light for me but you can turn it lower or even off. The touchscreen lights at the top can't be turned lower and is fairly bright but it doesn't bother me as I can't see it while laying down in bed.

You might be wondering why this air purifier costs double similarly sized air purifiers?
This one has a permanent ifD main filter and a permanent pre-filter meaning they can be washed and re-used.
You can do your own research on permanent ifD filters vs. the traditional HEPA filter and decide for yourself.
Some of you may prefer a cheaper up front cost of a traditional HEPA filter air purifier.

I figured for an airpurifier this size, $60+ HEPA filters every 6-12months means the price premium is well worth it. This air purifier does come with an extra Charcoal Pre-Filter that you can replace the permanent Pre-Filter with which is supposed to do a good job at removing odours. Would be good if you use this near your kitchen. The Charcoal Pre-Filter is NOT permanent however and needs to be replaced (forgot how long the manual stated). It costs $20 I think for 2 more charcoal prefilters.

Don't forget 1% ebates. Expires in 2 days so decide quick, this is ATL price.

Differences between models
They don't include the AirGenius6 but that one is like $100+ more than this with negligible differences.

I returned mine because 3 weeks after I bought it, it was still massively off gazing.

The smell of plastic was just too much.

Also it does not come with an extra carbon filter per say because there's only one in the box. The already installed prefilter is not carbon coated (it look like it, I made the same mistake), it's just a fine mesh permanent and washable filter. Only the one in the bag is carbon coated and is not washable and not permanent.

Also be aware that it use electrostatic precipitator and it release negative ions in the air. I'm not talking about Ozone by-product here, modern air purifier don't produce much, that's not a problem.

2 recent Chinese study showed that negative ions from air purifier could undermine the benefit of reduction of pm 2.5 from the air. 1 showed that it might increase oxidative stress.

3 studies now showed that negative ions from air purifier could also affect hearth rate variability (HRV) in human. A couple more were made with rats.

Anyway, it's still highly preliminary. Low quality studies.

In doubt, I decided to use mechanical HEPA filter without ionizer (electrostatic precipitator act like an ionizer aka Corona discharge). I bought the Winix C535 and I disable Plasmawave (bipolar ions). Zero plastic smell, cheaper (+ 8 carbon filters and 1 extra HEPA) higher CADR and more silent.

It's not related but Blueair purifier is also a massive negative ions machine, just for people to know.

great information from vonblock.

we have airgenius6, and are happy with performance for the past year. This looks like a great deal.

The Winix seems like a good buy, I think it was $155 at the warehouse, $170 shipped online
https://www.costco.ca/winix-c535-air-pu ... 73046.html

Design very similar to the Sharp I've had before, almost direct ripoff but cheaper and comes with 2 filters.
If I wanted a new HEPA filter for my Sharp, it would have cost as much lol

Made in Korea also

Alternatively Ikea now also have a small air purified good for 100sqft which can that be wall mounted, the media is smaller but very dense looking, not HEPA but "EPA-12" rated
replacement is dirt cheap at $8, charcoal is $13
