A new gen Ryzen 4600H with a 3 and 1/2 years old GTX 1050???
Why? How?
I thought the GTX 1050 was discontinued...

What's more important is
The GTX 1050 is the 3 GB lower end version, not the 4GB version (some are actually 1050 ti)

It's a rare feat to see a gaming laptop where the CPU isn't the bottleneck but it's the GPU instead.

Who on earth did BB hire to do data entry? The laptop is an HP Pavilion Gaming 15 Laptop.

Better chip but not better graphics

EDIT: Did not see that it had a dedicated chip thought it was just using the integrated vega gpu. Sorry!

Why is the GTX 1050 (non-ti) better than the GTX 1650?

Realistically, what games can 1050 play on high? Where does it stand?

This laptop from London Drugs is sold out but probably better value. Same processor, 512 SSD instead of 256 and better graphics GTX1650 instead of a 3Gb GTX1050. LD has it for $899 and likely on sale for $799 when in stock, same as the HP. Even if not on sale, for $100 more, better value for the bigger SSD and much better graphics card. May also be available elsewhere, I did not check.

After seeing the comparison, that's a hard pass for me. GTX 1050 just isn't powerful enough in 2020. Might be good for others with a long list of older games to play or if they're not really big on recent releases.

Not knowledgable on laptops, but is this laptop overkill for my dad? Looking for something to replace his ancient laptop. The specs looks great for the price, but I don't think he'll be needing that GPU since he doesn't play games.

Gaming laptops in this price range are heavy. If he is not using the GPU, get a thinner and lighter laptop

Then shouldn't be looking at a gaming laptop. Tonnes of other options out there for cheaper, same price, with much more portability.

$799 for this isn't a bad deal IMO tho. Heck you see used laptops with these kind of specs (or worse) listing for 800+ right now.
