I have the i5, 9th gen.

Mine quit working 3 months after warranty expired. It won’t power on, won’t charge.

Buyer beware of hp gaming laptops.

Bought one at HP.ca, thanks OP. Hopefully it lasts longer than 15 months...

How bad are those bilingual keyboards? I always used US layouts.

Does it work with the battery removed ?
Laptops usually won't boot with a dead battery but will do if there is no battery.
My old Dell had a 9cell battery that would always die after 14 months

Did you take it to a repair shop? What did they say as to what broke and how much it will cost to fix it? Did you Google to see if others are having the same problem? Is there a reddit thread, for instance, of people reporting the same issue? Anything can break. An individual incident is not proof that a product is defective or even inferior.

Definitely not an all metal thinkpad, but your are not paying for that either. I checked the disassembly video, and it looks pretty easy to work on. Not a big fan of the narrow hinge, but I am gentle with laptops so it may hold. My only other pet peeve is poor cooling, but there seems to be a few ways to make it better, if it ever becomes an issue (re-pasting, fan speed tweaks).

I had a few HP laptops and alway had issues with them. One one Pavilion battery died right after warranty expired. Second two had noisy\too loud fan issues and were returned.
Now HP laptops are no go for me.

I have the 4800H version of this (got it for $700 + change from a deal posted here on RFD) and am more than happy with it at this kind of pricing. (I threw an extra $300 into it upgrading the ram to 2X8GB and a 1TB NVMe).

The only hesitation I would have had was the 6 core vrs 8 core processor (the 4800H benched much better than a desktop 3600, and only slightly below an OC'd 3700X), but it looks like the the 5600H benches pretty closely to the 4800H until you hit a fully optimized multi-thread load.

Is it 60, 120 or 144hz? That would decide if this deal is even worth it.

Most probably 60hz as the website does not say anything.

I just got a shipping notification from HP.ca...14 days after I ordered the laptop. Just FYI, you may get a few extra Rakuten bucks at HP.ca vs Best Buy, but it looks like they are taking orders with no stock, so expect a loooong wait.
