[Best Buy] Macbook Pro M1 14in 512gb, 16gb ($2499.99 - 300 = $2199.99

Save $300 on one of the best MacBooks from Apple. Very highly reviewed machine and it's one of the best in the market. I rarely see this thing dip below the ~$2400 mark (though I'm not constantly eying it, it may have dipped lower), so $300 in savings is pretty decent. Do keep in mind the M2 Pro is expected to launch very soon though. Also the 1TB one is also on sale for $300 in savings.

Good price though pretty clear they’re clearing them out (amazon USA dropped their price on them by 25%ish earlier this week) as the M2 ones are set to drop soon like you said.

FYI strong expectations that Apple will be releasing the updated M2Pro CPU this month at some point, for the 14" and 16" Macbooks. You may want to wait if you care about that. Rumour is no changes to the chassis at all, simply an internal CPU swap.

Having said that, these CPU's were already such a multi-generational leap, that you could argue even this M1Pro is still phenomenal and not only competitive with Intel and AMD, but still superior in some ways, especially in terms of performance-per-watt and battery life - particularly against Intel, although AMD is more competitive. This is still a fantastic laptop and in no way feels "outdated".

And looking at the M2 upgrade we saw in the Air series, you could possibly argue that the jump from M1 to M2 may not be as dramatic as the jump from Intel to M1. Not too sure, since it's tuned differently in the Pro's, so may have to wait to see on that front. I thought I read somewhere they may be increasing the GPU core count for M2.

Also, suggest not comparing these to the standard retail price, always compare to the education discount price (since effectively this option is open to everyone). Against the education price, this is a $110 savings. https://www.apple.com/ca_edu_93120/shop ... ro/14-inch

Personally, I would want to see a bit more of a discount, but in any event, this is still an incredibly competitive machine.

thanks OP.

1. this is a pretty good price, actually lower than refurb.

2. having a 16" Max and played with M1 Air, i personally feel the 14" is the right size/weight/power ratio.
it's as powerful as the 16", has the "pro" features like HDR screen, but 1.2 lbs lighter

3. we'll see what M2 brings, but i think for most people it's not needed (extra CPU/GPU cores, higher clock speed to squeeze out performance...resulting in hotter laptop). also if Apple follows their M1/M2 Air trend, they will NOT price cut the previous gen as they usually do and introduce the new model at the same price point -- so arguing "M2 is coming" makes sense only if you're willing to pay more!

brand new for less than the price of a refurb is about as good as you can get for Apple so this isn't a bad deal. Although M2 pro will likely be coming soon I doubt it will be much of a difference compared to M1 pro for 99.9% of users

12% off old tech is only "hot" in the world of Apple.

i'm a pro user and the only standout features to me with M2 Air were:
1) more GPU cores (but if you depend on GPU performance, like many of my colleagues, you would run a PC)
2) dedicated ProRes encoder/decoders -- which the M1 Pro already has

i also have an M1 Mini and honestly that machine is way more than most people need in day to day use. i'm impressed with it from a Pro perspective

So while $300 off is nice, buy only if you need this right right now.
The starting retail price of the rumoured updated model will likely be higher. So expect a price different of ~$500, not $300.

Really good point.

If Apple adjusts for currency (which they tend to do for product launches), any new MBP 14 will start at $2,799.

Never thought about this, good points.

If Apple pulls another M2 Air price hike by increasing the new price and keeping the previous model on hand, then this deal becomes much more enticing.

The M2 Air was already a questionable value proposition against the M1 Air even with the redesign - it will be even more so with the Pros given the chassis seems likely to remain unchanged.

I bought a second hand 16GB/1TB M1 earlier this year for $1100 while in the states.

Prices in Canada are bonkers.
