Thanks for the clarification. I was following another Koodo/BB thread that talked about giftcards as well. I just want to ensure I get this right:

-Go to Bestbuy or Bestbuy Mobile
-Get the s9 activated on Large Tab and plan (get $250 GC from Bestbuy)
-Cancel immediately and you have a phone technically for $332(ONT)

What happens to the giftcard from Bestbuy? Can Koodo request for this back if I cancel immediately?
Yup, that's basically it. From all reports, Koodo does not clawback third party giftcards and other bonuses anymore.

Called Bestbuy mobile, the medium tab does not give you the reward of $250 in a Bestbuy GC, only if you activate on a Large tab/plan

Thanks for this. Ended up signing my gf up for the med tab through BBM over the weekend. There was no GC but she paid $0 up front for med. tab (Koodo website has you pay $150 but you get a $100 "gift"). Figured the deal was better through BBM.

Well, not so much from Koodo, unless you do it a lot. But you may get blacklisted from Bestbuy. But you kinda screw the retailer out of their commission, so they don't like it. Koodo wouldn't be thrilled about it. I've done it before, but I don't anymore unless there is a way with referral credit, and promo plans that would allow me to stay for 3 months at minimal cost. But this deal is for Tab Large, so the plans are too expensive to stay.
There is no "blacklist" at Best Buy....

10 years working as a buyer (merchandise manager) in their head office. most recently their accessories buyer for the last 6 years.

EDIT: to give a little bit more context, but without divulging any financials, carriers do claw back for various reasons the activation credit/phone subsidy that it provides to Best Buy. Depending on the carrier, this may be done ad hoc, or on a schedule (ie. quarterly basis). There is no commission to staff so staff do not get dinged for clawbacks. It's just corporate profit that takes a hit, as part of the business. This number pales to the profit they make, so it's just cost of doing business.

For customers, the only thing that you really get black listed is multiple sales online (because it's trackable) to the same credit card/postal code. This is to deter known re-sellers that disrupt the market by buying a lot of stock during hot boxing day/black friday offers, and flipping it later. Savvy resellers will use multiple credit cards with multiple names on multiple addresses to bypass this.
