i grabbed one not knowing crap about these things, can someone school me quickly on the difference between a smoker and a pellet BBQ? Is this more of a smoker or a BBQ? and lastly why is this one much better than the ones at home depot for around 800-1000 mark ? 2 left as i type this btw. Also i got free shippingl, they made me pick a time slot for delivery on checkout.

I think you are asking if this is used more for smoking (low temperature, long time) or for grilling (high temperature, short time).

It's more of a smoker to cook large pieces of meat at low temperature for long times. Things like a whole chicken, a whole piece of beef brisket, a whole rack of pork or beef ribs, etc. that you cook for several hours.

This is probably not the best type of equipment if you want to do grilling, to cook pieces of meat at high temperature for short times. Things like a piece of steak, a fillet of fish, a breast of chicken, etc. that you cook for 10-30 minutes at most.

However, this model also has a sear function which can create higher temperatures for grilling. It will probably not grill as well as a dedicated grilling equipment however.

Also, keep in mind that this model uses pellets, meaning that you need you need to buy pellets as fuel. A bag of pellets is probably around $25-30. It does not use gas or charcoal.

hey... I'm not an expert for sure but a couple responses;

this isn't tech. a 'real' smoker per se (although this model has that Sear-Tech feature that helps) but can be used to smoke especially if you use the correct accessories... a smoker generally uses less heat, slowly cooks the meat, very good for tougher less costly meats and creates great results... wood pellets are somewhat new compared to charcoal, gas, etc - I already have a vertical smoker and pizza maker (both use pellets which come in a variety of wood/flavours) plus a Kamado Joe charcoal BBQ... pellets can be costly but buying on sale N bulk is best, some ppl make their own. Also vis-a-vis the SL 700 is smaller in cooking area and doesn't have the wifi/bluetooth tech). Yeah picking it up saves $$$ but it's a big box so bring a pick-up for sure

it gives off smoke hence 'Smoker BBQ'... especially if you soak your pellets beforehand... I think you should check the condo rules first - there are better options than this model for ledges, if interested let me know, for example this type of model might be better on a balcony, there are other modeld, cheaper and mmore expensive -- https://www.amazon.ca/Cuisinart-CEG-980 ... tcontca-20

Thanks OP. Showing one left for me (Ottawa)

Been looking for a replacement for my Grill and Smoker but i'm not pulling the trigger. I need to over analyze and research before committing on something like this. And likely missing out on deals in the process.

looks like they're moving out these models for the newer, more 'improved & more $$$ models - you can always get a better deal if you wait, usually they come late in Summer or Fall but there are others out there.

Only you would know what your condo rules/regulations are . They operate using a combustible product ( wood)

Pellets must be kept dry at all costs when used in these type of pellet grills. Otherwise they will cause an auger jam.
