[Best Buy] Moto E 2020 smartphone Koodoo or Telus Prepaid $119.99

Solid BASIC phone at a very good price, just in time for Christmas. My spouse is in looove with Motorola phones, so this deal caught my eyes. Her old phone is getting really old.

I know, only 2 GB of RAM, but reviews still say the phone runs surprisingly well. For example: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/motorola-moto-e

Available as prepaid for Koodoo and Telus.

Just saw that this deal is also available at Walmart, but online only.

And remember that as of December 1st 2017, any device provided by a service provider to the customer for the purpose of providing wireless services must be provided unlocked.

Will Telus/Koodo unlock it when you sign up or only after a set amount of time?

So this looks like the stripped down version of the Moto G Fast. if the G Fast was a hot deal @ $150, then I guess this is similarly hot at $120, or at least a very close 2nd.

2GB RAM makes it tough.

720p isn't great but not a deal breaker.

RAM is tough unless this is a pure burner phone.

I have this phone as a daily driver, some observations.

With this phone, 2GB is fine. I have had zero performance issues, the CPU is rather speedy, and I think Android 10 deals with memory better than the older versions.
720p is also a non issue when you actually use the phone. could be a little brighter in direct sunlight, but still readable. Most people are not going to complain about the screen.
Camera is not bad, not great.

I do not play games, or open multiple apps, so if you are a power user, this might not be the phone for you.

But by far, this is the best phone you can get for $120. It punches well above it's weight!

How does this work? You just pay $120 at bestbuy and insert your current sim card (i.e. Speakout) ? Do I have any commitment with Telus/Koodoo? Thanks.

IMO, 2 gigs doesn't cut it for Android. It's a pretty inefficient operating system as it is, plus every manufacturer bloats the hell out of it with their garbage apps. Only a senior citizen or a person who uses a phone as just a phone, wouldn't care. Outside of the price, it's nice this one has a larger screen and some actual storage space versus the usual 8gb or 16gb ones they release.

Unless you really want a warranty and the convenience of it being local, I'd just go eBay and grab either an old flagship in this price range or consider upping your limit to $200ish.

Yeah, but if you don't have a recent version of Android most new apps won't work (which is my problem, I have an older phone and apps I need always refuse to install. Rarely use the phone so hate it when everything is becoming dependant on having one.

It's not a bad deal, I've just come to realize that 3GB RAM is the minimum comfortable amount of RAM to swing with an Android phone.

I have a 2GB Android phone I use for specific purposes, but with very few apps running it's still close to it's memory limit frequently. I couldn't imagine using it as a general use smart phone.

My two cents.
