Rolling up the mat every time you're done with the grill is really the only way, I think.

If your grill is always going to be in the same spot, maybe it doesn't matter. If you roll up the mat when you pack up the grill for the winter, maybe that would help the deck fade even out as well. Not sure, but I know I read it as a warning on several products when I was looking for a mat. It's not an issue that mattered to me for my patio stones, though.

Costco has a heavy duty mat and cover for 19.99 each in the west. its 36x64 inches

This is absolutely my primary worry with BBQ mats on composite. I was looking for something and even though some mats say composite safe, if you read reviews ppl post discoloration/bleaching of their composite. Mat manufacturer is only going to refund your money, they won't fix your deck.
We're all bozos on the bus until we find a way to express ourselves...

Failure is always an option...just not the preferred one!
