Every open box monitor I've touched from Best Buy has had some noticeable defect on closer inspection.

Careful now.

Could you give an example of some these defects so i know what to look out for and also would the warranty be able to cover these?

Noticeable lines, dirty screen effect, or dead or stuck pixels.

One or couple of dead pixels aren't considered defects and is not covered by warranty.
You have to ask yourself, why do they have open boxes?
Most likely there is dead pixels people found within whatever return policy dates and Bestbuy can't return to Asus because it's not defective by manufacturer's standards.

I received my open box unit today. Looks like new. Was packaged and everything with the plastic still on it. Only 1 dead pixel I have found in the bottom right corner when I actually ran the specialized test to look for them.

I really had to look for it, and is otherwise not noticeable. It can only really be seen if you look really hard when the screen is a completely solid colour.

Hard to beat this for the price boys. Wasn't even much of a gamble - if you're not happy, you could just return it.

To add to the other response, bad backlight bleed/glow. I've seen picks where this monitor can have a really bad panel making the whole screen have a noticeable orange tint (that you can still see on your desktop wallpaper).

Received my open box as well.

Perfect condition, no dead pixels, no scratches, no issues.

What a great deal, thank you.

Edit: take my upvote, this was a great deal for the top gaming monitor on rtings.
