What does best buy do with returned items?

They resell with a 10% discount, as long as the item isn't broken.

So how can you tell if the item is new or returned? Will there be a 10% off sticker or something?

There will be a sticker on it stating open box and it will show the reduced price... If the price looks high it is because it hasn't been updated, you can just calculate 10% off of the current new/unused price for the item.

well, they still resell it but they would call is refurbish

no, refurbished is a term that manufacturers use for items that have been taken back and repaired and deemed for resale. Refurbished items = from the manufacturer, usually come with a 60-90 day warranty. Open box items carry the full manufacturers warranty. thats the main diff. But to be honnest, I wouldnt trust either ...
