I bought a 1TB version at the same price 3 years ago. Now the capacity is 5 times, bravo.

You might want to rethink that. I have a 4Tb and 5Tb Seagate portable drive. The 5Tb is really finicky due to what I believe is power requirements. USB ports are barely enough to power this thing. For reliable operation, I end up using a powered hub which is little inconvenient.

Ugh good point thank you !!
My main use is to hook this up to my Sony TV for Remux .. damn I probably have to keep the 4TB then?

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the 4TB for $85?

Best to check what kind out power is coming out of the TV USB port.

This sale has been on since Black Friday and before and there always seem plenty available. I'm using one. No problems for a non powered USB connection in my Shield.

I will give it a shot. I guess this is why the portable HD never went over 5TB mark.

Now i wonder if we can do this PM at Staples and get $15 off lol

Also I guess the 4TB - backup plus, their 5TB version is more expansive than the one on sale now which is the Expansion. Probably should check out what's the different

I've been wanting to store all of our photos onto an external drive as a back up but 5TB is pretty excessive.
At this price should I just get it anyway or are there better/cheaper/smaller options currently?

smaller is actually more expansive. If you can get the 4TB for let say $85 ish there's no reason to get the 1-2TB for $65, Mind you you could actually get WD (some people claimed they are better) 1-2TB for around the $65 mark

Great deal. I always have nightmares about buying a 4GB or 5GB drive and one day... poof.... lose it all.

is there any reason I couldn't shuck this and use it as a secondary drive inside my laptop, in addition to my SSD? I have room for 2 drives and currently use two, but 5TB > 1TB. thanks for any feedback
