I'm still hesitating over buying any external hard drives after having my WD passport die on me for no reason.

Would this be good enough as a backup drive for school projects (ie, video editing, etc) ?

Thanks!

Same question here.
Tried to find a 'shuck the drive' type of review & couldn't.
Anyone that owns this, would appreciate hearing your comments.
Specs seem decent.
Comes with 1 year warranty, for $6.99 bestbuy offers 3 years, seems like it'd be worth it?
Cheapest 4TB drive appearing via pc part pickers is $104.99 @ Canada Computers, although internal, wonder if that one is better.

Hard to compare specs to Seagate drive as very few details are provided.

Definitely a solid deal, don't recall 4TB drives hitting $100 for quite some time. Way back a 5TB went for $100 but this was well before COVID
edit: December 2019 a 5TB Seagate was $99

Is the WD MyPassport 5GB for 130$ a better deal? Currently 150$.

Would this be ok to be plugged into a router or computer all the time?

You'd be paying $130/5TB = $26/TB and this one is $100/4TB = $25/TB so technically no, it's not a better deal, but you can pay the $1/TB premium to have that extra TB

Was going to post this as well, generally 2.5" drives cannot be shucked as they have proprietary connections (it may vary between Seagate and WD, though). Also, some of these drives are taller than standard 2.5" drives so that could cause an issue, as well.

I can't tell if this is a 2.5 (laptop) or 3.5 (desktop) inch drive inside. It looks like 3.5 inch but lack of a power connection would imply that it's a 2.5 one.

Not a bad deal at all if it's a laptop drive.

Portable means 2.5".
