So Sony X90J then. Or just get them the cheapest Samsung TU / LG NANO option.easymoneysnxper wrote: ↑ Not gonna lie those are really good picks, its just that this is something im getting for my parents and they dont really care about the colours and all that but they dont really like the TCL brands or hisense, theyd much rather stick with stuff like LG, samsung, or sony. But they dont want me to spend near 2000$ for a tv. Is there something less than 1300 that would be ideal for my parents they only really watch old dramas and some movies. 65" 4k. I do really like that TCL but they wouldnt let me get that for them even if i tried lmao

+1, also the owner of a 65" X950G, and also got it for $1699 on BF. It's the exact same TV as the X950H except for different speakers and a x-wide filter coating.BabyYoda wrote: ↑ This is not really that great. I got my XBR65X950G, the 2019 model in Christmas for $1699 + tax at BB. The XBR65X950H is marginally better than the XBR65X950G, not much improvements. Given we are at the end of 2021, retailers should provide deeper discounts if they want to get rid of old inventory. In another couple months, they will be 2 years old models, depreciate even more!
If you can find an X950G, do that and flash the H 64774) or Z8H (64775) firmware on it and you get basically the same TV.

Between the hassle of calibration etc. the Sony 95j should be great straight out of the box. Sony has been know for their true life Colors.
I’m not down playing TCL. They make budget tvs with high end features. Some work some doesn’t. Some quality control returns. Sony isn’t perfect unless you go OLeD. They make many promises and still hasn’t delivered.
Different brands have strengths and weaknesses.
I’m not an expert so not everything I say is true.
The best time to buy a new tv is around Black Friday maybe a week or two before or summer June when new models come out and they get rid of old models. The 950H has been on the market for almost a year or so and it’s one of the best of 2020 that mid tier. The 95J from reviews is a bit better. Unless you are going with the A8H. I would wait and see what the prices for the 95J is. I think and from sources at Costco it will be around the $1700 +\- $100. Could be as high as $1799.
For example if the iPhone 13 on release date is the same price as iPhone 12 right now then yeah I would wait a few more weeks to buy iPhone 13, why buy last years model if the price is the same?

Yeah. Based on comments on avsforum, besides poor black uniformity, there are considerably more quality control issues such as DSE and grid lines with the X95J than in previous versions (i.e. the x950g and h).escape1975 wrote: ↑ XR65X95J is $2600 on Costco.ca

I was eager for this set until I saw the reviews. According to rtings.com, the unit they tested did not even have wide color gamut. Also, the native contrast is quite low, and is even worse than the X950h.
So now I am gravitating towards the Samsung qn90a, especially with the $1,200 price drop. But Samsung also has its own issues, which is why I suspect I might eventually wait another year for an upgrade.
In any event, the 65X950h has been on sale at this price at Bestbuy for at least 3 plus weeks now.

Yes. I saw a 75x90J for $2,200 at LD (BNIB) so $2k for the 65" seems high.

I think the only thing disappointing to me is that the 950h was the same price about 10 months ago.

Returned Hisense U78G and bought a like new open box 65 X950H for $1560 from visions. Lost out on HDMI 2.1 and VRR but I don’t game and watching movies and shows is my primary use case scenario.
Loving it so far! Noticeable step up in picture quality.

X90J has worse PQ than the X950H though.
You do get HDMI 2.1 and maybe VRR at some point

I don’t think we’ll see prices like in Ontario, but I could be wrong.

This for sure is a bad deal. I remember X900 were selling 1499 or 1599 when they were clearing them out. Here everyone was talking about it a few years back. No way X950 is a deal here.

I would say around First or second week of November leading to Black Friday. If you don’t see TV deals ie mid range like 90j or slightly higher 95j go on sale then you won’t see it change much.
On Black Friday you usually see the low end tvs go on sale.
I see the 90j and 95j go on sale. I recommend you guys holding on and wait another week or two. Then decide. Good hunting.
