I purchased the hardwire kit at Best Buy with the camera. When I went home to open it, the hardwire was missing and there was just a micro USB plug!

Hope this will save someone a trip going back, so open the box before you leave the store.
Some low life screwed you/best buy on that one.

Ya something amiss, perhaps the wrong kit as the hardwire kit does not include a usb cable.

so if I buy the unit and this : https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/th ... 98921.aspx?
I'll be good for a full install including the rear dash cam? Or do I need to buy two of these hard wire kits?
Yes one hard wire kit is all you need, with if you want to wire it to the fuse box, two wire taps of what ever kind of fuses your car uses. Usually the mini kind. You will want to attach to one always on circuit and one that is off when the car is off such as radio, and of course a simple ground connection. Yellow to always on and red to accessory, black ground.

Just had this installed a few weeks ago at Audio Heaven (experts in this and they sell it too).
How much did you pay them to install it? Is it cheaper to get the cam from them?

They were offering the same sale price (at the time - $299) so I doubt they'll be as cheap as this sale, no.
I think the install would have been $120 and then an extra $40 for the parking mode (runs when the car is off, based on voltage). Don't quote me though, just call them and ask for a price. Out the door looks like $200.

The work will be done right, once and if there's any problems with the install, he warranties the work so, I've used them for years. There's a lot of pop-up dash cam installers. This isn't one of them lol

Watch on YouTube in 1080p - RFD has compressed

Rear

Random Front & Back Images (rear through tint) - better results on a sunny day (not rain). Lots of video examples and photos on the web of this unit, it's very popular and one of "the best"

If I didn't want to hardwire this, is it overkill? I just want a cam system for liability purposes, which I'm sure is why everyone wants one haha.

Thanks in advance.

The app is garbage though.. i have the wifi version and you have to download the entire video to see anything. Then you have to scroll to any points you're looking for.

It looks like Thinkware uses a different connector for the HW than the generic ones, which use either mini- or micro-USB? Has anyone used a cheaper generic HW kit instead of the TWA-SH?

It's pretty easy to install it properly your self. If I can do it anyone can.

You need the thinkware wire kit or a comparable third party one if available. Only other one I have ever seen is the black box my car one that they sell for roughly the same price as thinkwares. They just usually include it free in their packages. Thinkware uses an 8mm power brick type power connector not usb. The only usb connector is between the two cameras front and back. The connector to the camera is as shown in this picture, then yellow to constant power on your fuse box and red to accessory (off when ignition is off), and of course ground to the vehicles body.

How does this compare to viofo a129?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this on how it compares with the A129 duo? Thank you.
