[Best Buy] WD Black D10 8TB desktop external hard drive - $209.99

The price on this item has been fluctuating at Best Buy. I saw it a few days ago a $219.99, but then it quickly bounced to $279.99.

I just bought it a few minutes ago at $209.99, but they again went up to $219.99 since then, and now back at $209. No other retailer has it for anywhere near that.

While I won't be using it on a game console (its target market), I'm interested in this for its 7200rpm disc, and active fan cooling.

As long as you don't get an SMR drive your are fine. This one is good or you can go for https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/se ... 0/13873749 for 25$ per TB depending on how much storage you need.

The WD does come with a 3 month xbox ultimate game pass so maybe you can resell this to lower your cost if you don't need it.

It's a movie.... they don't take up that much bandwidth.

Unless you're dumping full bluray rips on back to back on a drive that's already had movies, you won't have an issue.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Ordered 2 just in case. My PS4 external drive is dying and my 1TB SSD on my PC can't handle all the games from Xbox Gamepass. I hope these are good CMR drives....

Doesn’t Costco have one for 189.99 or 179.99? 8TB?

use to sell in stores but now I see 8TB only available on online store at 199.99. considering WD mybook was 5400RPM with NAS ware, this 7200RPM + Data centre drive looks pretty good deal

That's a good question. WD has provided a list of SMR drives https://blog.westerndigital.com/wd-red-nas-drives/ which they state covers Red, Blue, Black and Purple internal drives but that still leaves an unknown to consumers about their white drives which are common in WD external drives.

If you need a reasonably priced portable external drive and don't want to wait around for the next deal, check out this vendor at the 747 Flea market in Brampton. https://www.facebook.com/VideoGameSpecialists/

Depending on stock levels, they carry regular WD/Seagates as well as Xbox versions which are perfectly fine once you format them. When I was there a few weeks ago the prices were 4TB/100 and 5TB/130 cash.
