Good find OP! I wouldn't trust the over-inflated MSRP on this, these go for around $260USD. If you were you buy from BH Photo they'd cost about $424.75CAD with shipping/duties/taxes (not including whatever your CC company charges for currency conversion).

Does anyone know how quiet these wd mybook desktop external drives are? I read that the the WD element/easystore external desktop drives run much quieter and for comparison, own a wd passport (portable drive) which is near silent, but curious how much noise these large capacity desktop drives make.
Always hungry ;)

Thx Op! I'll try my luck with this WD, even though my shucked Seagates have all been rock solid!

with Helium filled and 5400rpm they should be as quiet as your going to get. It is the reason I have been waiting for this deal.

Already? Wow.. So nice for the multinational HD manufacturers and Big Boxes to allocate a few decent-sized externals up to us Plebs here in Canada/"The Great White North", only to have them last about 2hrs long. Meanwhile, the Great USofA has had these HD's in stock and plentiful for months or more...

AFAIK we don't get the Easystores in Canada, why would you prefer an ES over a MyBook?

If you read a few posts up it mentions a video of an easystore shucking.
