Best Internet Deals in Quebec

April 20, 2020
Carrytel DSL 50/10 $29.99/month for first 3 months, then $34.95/month, no activation fee, $30 refundable deposit for modem, Wireless-N router included
Virgin Mobile Home Internet: 50/10 can sometimes get 50% off ($30/month) for 12 months if you call or chat.
IVCTEL 100/30 Mbps $39.95/month first year, $49.95/month ongoing, Installation/Activation: $59.95, $5/month wifi router rental fee, NO WIRELESS ROUTER!!!
Distributel 25/10 $37.50 scammish "promo pricing", comes out to $44.50/month for 1 year with wifi modem.

Deals on ModemOutlet
Quebec 50M Internet: 50/10 $34.99/month, WIRELESS modem INCLUDED, one time $70 install (Can be waived with 12 months prepayment);
Quebec 60M Internet: 60/10 44.98/month, $60 processing fee ($50 is refundable deposit), modem included but NO WIFI ROUTER
Quebec 100M Internet: 100/10 49.98/month No Contract, $60 processing fee ($50 is refundable deposit), modem included but NO WIFI ROUTER

So far, Carrytel has the best reviews and reasonable pricing, considering that it has no activation fees and a wifi modem is included. I'd strongly advise asking ModemOutlet who is the provider behind each different service. CIK Telecom has a very bad reputation for DSL but sometimes they use cable from Videotron- which can lead to good uptime.

THE FOLLOWING INFO IS OUTDATED AND NO LONGER VALID:

Sept 15, 2019:
Carrytel DSL 50/10 $29.99/month, no activation fee, $30 refundable deposit for modem, Wireless-N router included
Modemoutlet: Cannet CABLE 100/10 34.99/month, $60 activation, Wireless-AC1200 router included.
Modemoutlet: Cannet DSL 50/10 $29.99/month, $30 activation, Wireless-AC1200 router included.
Virgin Mobile Home Internet: 50/10 can sometimes get 50% off ($30/month) for 12 months if you call or chat.

WARNING! Cannet is the same company as CIKtelecom and have truly horrible reviews, though some members got lucky and have no issues. Their DSL is spotty at best and their service is nightmarish. If you decide to gamble on them, stick with the cable 100/10 which is resold from Videotron and report here how it goes.

My advice: Stick with Carrytel. The wifi modem included is slow, so you'll have to get your own Wireless-AC router. But the speeds are consistent and they respond to service calls. If you can get the 50% discount with Virgin for 12 months, you may want to consider that as well because their service is excellent, the wifi router is good and there are no activation fees.

I know some people might complain but for seniors who use emails/browsing/video streams and 1-2 simultaneous netflix streams and dont care about peak performance, I have found this to be the best deal available in Quebec:

Name: Ciktel
Speed and Bandwidth: 15/10 unlimited + Residential line
Price: 30$ first year, 40$ after that
Modem: included
Installation: 30$
Backbone: Bell DSL
Comments: Great for the average user not doing torrents or care about raw speed, 40$ modem in for internet plus a voip line (free canada wide) with no headaches or tech savvyness required is as good as i found for my parents.

I've been using Virgin 25/10 Unlimited for a month now and it's working fine especially late at night.

I'm checking the internet download speed and they can get very low speeds from 4 to 10PM every day. Last 2 days I experienced extreme slow download speed around 2-3 mbps...Will be contacting them soon.

Yeah, me neither. OP, where did you see that deal? (44.99$ for unlimited 50/10).

I'm with Videotron on 120mbps unlimited, I had 5$ rebate for a year that was going to expire in a month. I called to tell them I was going to cancel because 80$ was too expensive for me, the girl put me on hold for 30 seconds and came back to offer me the same speed and unlimited for 55$ + tx for 24 months, modem and router (AC1900 I think, I only keep it as a back-up) are included.

My plan B was going with Virgin's 50mbps for 60$, so I'm pretty happy about the deal, saves me 2 appointments to remove Videotron and install Virgin. She even gave me a credit for the current month since it was already billed that day.

I've had the same random slowdowns over the last week. They are sending me a new modem, but if it doesn't resolve, I'll switch to Cannet.

I updated the OP with details. RFD has blocked modemoutlet links before in other threads, but I have no idea why since they are not referral links.

Awesome thread idea! We get screwed for internet in Quebec. Suggestions for the main post with all the providers: links to the deals in question; technology used (DSL Cable, Wireless); back-end network provider (Bell, Videotron, etc.).

Thanks!

Let us know if it makes a difference with the new modem. I'm calling them soon to complain :)

this is perfect for my parents. was looking at ditching DSL because our phone lines are so old and since we are not owners, highly doubt they'll change the lines

Sorry for my ignorance, but is Virgin considered as cable or DSL? How about Cannet? Are CanNet really still using phone line?

Back in the days, i have always associated Bell with DSL and Videotron with cable....

Virgin is owned by Bell, they use their network, they'll have fiber to the street probably and phone line to your modem.

Thanks looking to switch. My ebox speed is getting sporadic lately, quite annoying.
