I don't know much about Petro Canada, but 7-11 Speakout seems like its the best. It runs the Rogers network (locked Rogers phones work with a Speakout sim card), minimum yearly topup is $25, if you by 75 or 100 top ups yo get 20c/min calling and 5c for each outgoing and ingoing text. Also, unlike companies like Virgin, you aren't billed until the person on the other end picks up the phone and you can access your voicemail by calling your phone number from a landline and not have to pay for voicemail airtime :D

But the phones they come with are very basic and rather expensive, and there is no data network whatsoever - that's about the only downsides.

Petro Canada Mobility is run by the same company as 7-11 (both use the Rogers network), and charges 20 cents/min on any pre-paid amount...7-11 only charges the cheapest per min (20 cents) when you buy the more expensive top-ups. However Petro Can top-ups only last half a year unless you buy the $100 top-up. I went with Petro Canada mainly because most of the 7-11's have disappeared in Toronto and you can only buy top-ups at 7-11 (same with Petro Canada, you can only get top-ups at Petro Canada.) The basic phones (same models) are also cheaper at Petro Canada.

if you want a RAZR from Rogers PAYGO, it comes down to like $ 30 - 50 for the cost of the RAZR.

I heard 7-11 is the best, but I have also heard decent things about Loblaws & Virgin.

About $29-49 more than its worth.

Virgin used to be good for prepaid - now they are over priced.
30c/min vs (20-25c for 711); Call starts the moment it starts ringing (711 bills the moment the call is connected); text messages are 15c (711 is 5c/ to receive or send); a $25 top up last two months (711's $25 top up lasts a year and at a cheaper rate). Plus, you're locked in with Virgin's limited phone selection.

And any unlocked GSM phone will work with any GSM network here.

Virgin mobile has a $10 prepaid, $0.10/min; it's monthly expiration.

But if you are a very light user, get a $100 card, go for a year. Similar to Rogers $100 for their prepaid.

Not as good of a deal as it seems.

That $10 deals means you pay $10 to get a 10c/min rate. So if you want to make 1 minutes worth of calling per month, it'll cost $10.10, for two it'll cost $10.20, etc.

And why box yourself into a more expensive plan when you can get a cheaper plan with 711? You can go as low as 25/yr whereas 25 only lasts two months on Virgin, and that 25c would have more expensive texting and calling...

Virgin is no longer competitive AT ALL for light users.

I would recommend Petro Canada Mobility, if you want a a phone with no camera and only plan to do voice buy the Nokia 1280, excellent battery life. This is the one I have and have my CAA membership linked to the petro points program as well as buying fuel so I just redeem to buy minutes. I am not sure about the other phones but for $59 dollars to get a phone you can't go wrong.
