Best routers to get in 2021?

A lot of 2.4g devices, some 5g.

Currently have a asus 3100 AC router, problematic disconnects after troubleshooting tons and tons in the professional wifi settings.

Nothing seems to lessen it.

I’m looking for a router and debating waitin GB for the 6e if it’s worth while or asking for recommendations for the best value asus routers currently, would like to stay with asus for the firewall and UI + AI Net

No clue about Asus but I'd just get a Google Nest WiFi mesh system and call it a day.

I usually laugh in pfSense but ever since they botched the Wireguard thing I'm tempted to switch to opnsense.
Gonna try deploying one this month.

It's not like I'm leaving pfSense any time soon though. One of them has 1300 days uptime and it'd be like killing a friend at this point.

Team a *sense with a Unifi and call it a day. Although I'm straying there too. I kinda want to try TP-Link Omadas.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Have you updated the firmware? If not you might be 5-6 revisions behind if it's still on the factory FW after a few years of owning it.

Hello all, apologies if this is not the right forum to ask a question. Does anyone know of a router that has an option to set a rule that disconnects a user after n minutes of browsing activity? My kids get on YouTube and stay on it for the whole day. I am looking for something that allows me to set a rule which says to wait for an hour before connecting back after 2 hours of browsing, etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I got a few sets of eero Pro 6 routers and put them around my house. I used wired connections for the backhaul between them. I get fantastic speeds and coverage and setup is super easy.

Some home routers have pretty indepth parental controls, which you can set restrictions on time, websites, per device (tablet, PC, xbox).

I switched from Cisco to TP-Link and I have no complaints, I’ve also used the Ubiquiti product and I like the TP-Link a lot more. Currently using the EAP660 with pfSense

Ended up with a AX 11000 and a AX92u for mesh

Massive wifi coverage in 2.4 and 5g gets the whole house

First router is a gold star favorite.

Second router is probably a decent AIMesh point, but I might've gotten an AX86U instead.

Well done.

Some ASUS routers are supported by Asuswrt-Merlin project, which takes the official ASUS firmware and adds additional bug-fixes and tweaks.
It might have helped with your original issue, but should improve your experience with the new routers too.
Since it's based on the official firmware, the ASUS features like AiMesh should still work.
