Best Sub-$500 All-in REFURB Laptop out there

Looking to buy one for a student heading off to Vocational College. Does not need to be a "gaming performance" machine. Don't care if its heavy. Please chime in with your opinions, comments, flames etc. So far the comms I have had with Bauer systems has been very poor and that has me giving them a sketchy rating.
