Best US Travel Data Options?

Going to be in Los Angeles for 5 days with 7 friends. So far I think the best option I've found is:

-Buy AOW SIM card for $10 CAD https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68302
-Use their $2.99 USD/day 500mb option https://alwaysonlinewireless.com/plans#our-plans
-Use this SIM in a non-primary phone and leave tether on
-Wifi off phones. Probably get 2 of these for the 8 of us, so 4 devices / 1 SIM

Cost: $10+$15USD = ~$30CAD / 5 days. Even with sharing this among 2 people / SIM still seems cheaper than Roam-Like-Home.

Anyone have a better idea?

I bought a redpocket mobile plan on eBay.

I have a data only plan in Canada.

The RPM plan costed $60 US. It lasts for 12 months.

I get 500 megs data ,100 minutes, 100 texts per month.

$5 a month for 500 megs data.

Plus it has a business connection with all 4 major US providers.

So when you get your plan you decide which providers towers you want ATT, Verizon or TMOBILE.

And you can call back to Canada using your 100 minutes.

I think your find is the best value. The only thing that you might want to find out if the plan allows for tethering. Many data plans do not. T-Mobile data plans do not allow tethering.

T-Mobile has data plans that cost about $10 per GB.

You could also get a T-Mobile prepaid voice/text/data plan. The best value is $50 for 10GB, should you need that much data. The benefit is this plan allows tethering and has free music streaming. They've got a current promotion when you buy a $100 refill card and get a free phone,

https://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/web-to-retail

They will unlock the phone for you right away and you could easily resell the phone to bring your cost down to zero.

Yes. AOW plans include hotspot/tethering so you can share data from your smartphone or tablet (using the hotspot feature) to laptops, tablets, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device.

I been researching an alternative to ROAM , FreedomPop. and T mobile, but you've definitely hit the jackpot.!!!!

FYI: memory express has there sim cards on sale for 8.99 CAD til May 31st - and for 2.99 USD /a day - for 500mb - that is ideal

RM data plan costs Can$30 & $60 respectively for 2/5 Gb . For 7 people 7 days trip , allowing 5 Gb (for tethering to other devices) is not exactly a lot.

Depending on how much data is required, Public Mobile has a promo with activation at Walmart, SIM card is free, get the $10 plan, bill credit of $20 is issued within 3 days, use the bill credit to buy 1 gig data add-on which is good for 10 days. Total cost $10.
Koodo $40/6GB
Public Mobile $40/15GB, $35/20GB, lot less with rewards

Dang. I travel on wednesday and proactively bought it when it was $9.99 in March. As an RFD'er I sincerely feel ripped off now.

If you're on Rogers, they've released a feature for $10 extra that gives you US Roaming. It credits back the Roam like Home charges so you don't pay the $7 per day.
