Best value herb planter with common herbs (e.g. cilantro, basil, parsley, thyme, etc)

Where can I get a variety pack or planter set that doesn't break the bank? I don't necessarily want to make one on the lawn as I'm saving that space for vegetables. Just looking for a planter to put on a table outside to grab fresh stuff from.

Are you looking for a particular kind of device (like self-watering)? Most people would just get a pot and seeds, put some soil in it, plant the seeds, and wait. Or go to a garden centre and buy whatever they have.

Cilantro is a bit tricky. I just seeded with some old Suraj (Loblaw's brand) coriander and see it that sprouts. Will have to sow weekly as it bolts fast.

Basil, can be grown but a bit tricky. Just get a seedling from a covered greenhouse. If they get chilled, they never recover well and hence don't grow well.

Parsley (Italian anyway). Easy to grow and will spread everywhere once it self seeds.

Thyme, just buy a small plant and put as a border. It will spread and grow slowly. Harvest springs as you need.

Many Herbs have a habit of reseeding / spreading
For this reason I recommend that you just plant herbs in individual pots
Makes them far easier for upkeep & maintenance etc
(Some Herbs for example require water often ... while others just once a week or so)

Bonus ...
And at the end of season, you can bring indoors any survivors
And keep them going in a sunny window, or under a grow light

Or ... you can buy a potted up herb pot at a Garden Centre
With a variety of herbs all in one pot
(They usually have themes ... Mediterranean - Italian - French etc)

Pretty easy to care for, just harvest often ... so the plants don’t get too big
And dominate the neighbours in the same container

Container Gardening for Herbs is relatively easy

If you go the individual pots route, you can always group them together in some other way
Like inside a window box for example

Or a raised planter
