Being curious. Can anyone explain : considering performance / price rate, not worth trying it (gaming only, no mining) ? Or,should have more concernes of marketplace seller? Still better guaranty than kijiji, right?

What's wrong with marketplace sellers? Just browsing the deals section on the bestbuy site now and there are some great deals here all over.. I'm assuming there's a caveat

I mean, you can always try... If it's in your budget then you could. However, I would strongly recommend that you go for the Costco Acer Desktop since it is $200 more but you're getting peace of mind, 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB SSD. The 3060 Ti is pretty much right at 3070 level as is for gaming.

You're just buying from randos online, not bestbuy, bestbuy is just facilitating and taking a cut.

You have a problem with it you have to get service from the seller.

Some people are just more discerning with whom they spend thousands of dollars online on, especially when its refurbished items.

Personally I would avoid, but you do you.

Yeah, I don't do marketplace sellers, but that's entirely up to you.

Thing to do is to ignore the best buy name, and then look at the seller and decide from there if you'd buy from them if you saw an ad on kijiji. For the most part the platforms that have third party marketplace sellers (bestbuy, walmart, newegg, etc....) don't offer any kind of guarantee and/or return options for third party sellers. The only major platform I do third party sellers on is Amazon, and even then I only do the "sold by XXX, but shipped by Amazon" ones as they allow you to do returns directly back to Amazon.

The case suggests bad cooling.

From the back, the size of PSU's rear exhaust fan suggest the PSU is proprietary. Meaning that you can't really upgrade the CPU or GPU due to power limit. Unless you buy second hand higher power rated PSU off Ebay.

"Certified Refurbished" haha. This means as much as "Dealer Certified" when you buy second hand cars, minus the extended warranty offered by some makes. It's nothing but a marketing term.

Marketplace seller means you are not getting usual bestbuy return / warranty policies. It's not kijiji but the process is equal to eBay. First you deal with seller, and if it cannot be resolved, bestbuy can mediate.

You'll need to provide evidence that something is not working or did not match picture/specifications, which can be difficult if you can't root cause the problem yourself on a computer component that is flakey or failing once in awhile.

Don't buy a Dell. A Dell with a 3070 will be loud, hot, full of bloatware, and thermal throttle to the point you may as well get a 3060.

I had an Alienware with a 3080, ran with temps capped (110 degrees C GPU junction temps, 95 degrees C CPU temp) and sounded like a jet engine. I spent a couple hundred bucks on additional fans, re-padding and pasting the GPU, adding water cooling, mangled the case, ran it with the sides off and the PSU swung out of the way - only then did it achieve the expected performance of the parts contained. I increased my benchmark scores by 20%+.

Now it powers off randomly, won't boot, and is generally crap. Dell warranty folks asked me to remove one part at a time and boot it up to see what the problem is - isn't a warranty so I don't have to dig around in the case, removing one stick or RAM at a time and doing all their troubleshooting for them?

In addition, check out the LTT videos on additional charges and warranty being added to the invoice despite explicitly declining them.

Don't buy Dell.

Edit: I'm positive that my additional work is not the cause of the problems.

There were some complaints against Marketplace sellers that I can summarise as I understand below

In case of any issues during your transaction(s) and/or issues with the product, these big companies like Walmart and Best buy do not provide any support and you are going to deal with the seller yourself.
This, in my opinion is very similar to dealing with a random kijiji seller.

Just an FYI - Marketplace sellers are generally an iffy prospect for sure, but I *believe* that this seller (DCR) is the official Dell Canada Refurbished account. Buddy of mine bought an Alienware laptop from them a year or two back and it came directly from Dell and was basically like new.

Now, that's completely aside from whether or not this particular (now gone) machine was a good deal or not of course. Just a comment on the seller, for future possible purchases.

If is an official dell canada refurbished account selling dell refurbished gear it would make this a lot more interesting, but then they need to fire their PR guy and rename the account from DCR to “DELL CANADA REFURBISHED (OFFICIAL)” or something like that because the bestbuy/amazon are marketplaces with tons of sketchy refurbs that people SHOULD stay away from, but for all I have issues with dell their official refurbished account should get some credit for being less sketchy about things.

They usually sell out their items pretty quickly, so I don't think they are too concerned about marketing. Lol. But yeah, I went back and double checked, and DCR is indeed the seller that he bought from, and the address it shipped from matched a Dell address.
