Beware of extended car warranty phone scam

People have been calling to claim that they are selling extended car warranties and asking for credit card and bank info!

Basically this means that they know how when your car warranty is expiring and also your phone number. How they got this info, I don't know but someone should have reported to either the police or made a complaint to the car company.

I suspect that someone has stolen private and confidential data is from either the car companies or perhaps the data at the drivers license bureaus.

That's funny. I've been getting these calls from a New Orleans area code (I'm in SF Bay). Problem is, I don't even have a driver's license :D

Maybe some crooked dealerships sold their sales info to make more profit and it got into these guys' hands.

They have no idea if your warranty is expiring...

...we constantly get the same message: This is the second notice that your cars factory warranty is about to expire. My car is one year old Ford, wife's is a 7 year old Mini Cooper S.

Heh.

There needs to be something done about this. It's really annoying to have to pick up the phone and listen to this garbage all the time.

I live in the the Durham region of the GTA & the calls came every day for about 2-weeks, now seem to have stopped

Both our vehicles are over 12 years old

This crooked company was just barred from Saskatchewan. Contact your telephone company if you get calls from them.

I also got the call. The person used the traditional time limited offer techniques to try and sell the policy to me. It was $2000 for 3 years of coverage which is insane. Sounded fishy to say the least as well.

I got a call a week ago too. "Your car's warranty is about to expire, press 1 to extend your warranty, press 2 to speak to a live agent". I press 2 and the call gets disconnected.

Toyota is the make of my car, I thought about calling them to see if it was legit, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. But now that I see the creation of this thread, I wont waste my time.

I got the final notice call to my cell. My parents have been getting the calls too.

I thought automated calls were mostly illegal in Canada? (or Ontario?) I thought only polictical parties and a few others could use them?

I just bought a vw jetta less than a month ago and got the same call the other day. Doesnt seem to be isolated to any one type of vehicle manufacturer. I feel sorry for the people who actually fall for this scam.

I'm on rogers wireless, whats everybody else on when they got the call?
