Might be better to just wait for this https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07X3RBTQT to go down to $279.99 and buy locally. As you can see if you have Keepa plugin. Amazon and Best buy both drop the price to $280 almost once a month since August. Not only is it cheaper, no import, it is also a better drive inside.

I'm not a mathematician but OPs drive is $260 all-in, this drive is $316.40 including taxes (Ontario). It's almost $60 more.

Once you factor in the 13% HST you would need to pay on Amazon.ca, the comparable price of this drive is $226.69 CAD.

($198.74 USD shipped - 13% = $172.90 USD) in CAD = $226.69 CAD

$18.89 CAD per TB vs $23.33 CAD per TB.

I've ordered 2.

This would not be ideal for a person that shucks their drives. You can’t remove the drives out of the My Books and access it somewhere else because of hardware encryption. Elements are the way to if you shucking.

Bestbuy was 632.78 for 2x MyBooks
This came to 534.24. Going to return the BB purchase.

Same drives inside elements or MyBook. If planning to immediately shuck then the encryption is irrelevant. If planning to use inside enclosure then then elements because you can still access data and shuck later if enclosure fails. Drives will likely all need 3.3v workaround, pin tape or sata power cable mod.

Thanks OP. Not sure there will be better deal from Cdn resellers on BF. Ordered 2 as well.

How does the warranty work on these when ordering from the US? I realize you're essentially forfeiting the warranty by shucking them which is why I tend to buy OEM drives. The one or two I've shucked I've secretly hoped I could slip the drive back into the enclosure and return if need be.... maybe I'm delusional.

I grabbed one from Amazon this morning. Debating cancelling that order and getting 2 from BH. A bigger parity & new data drive for my unraid box... no real rush so I'm ok with the 2-4 week wait. Who knows, maybe a better deal will crop up and I'll end up cancelling anyway!

I suspect it will be a rinse & repeat for BF. 12TB/$280@BB, 12TB/$260@Amazon. Maybe some 8TB deals. This was essentially $240+tax (20/TB pre tax).

The gold standard benchmark is 14TB/$200USD on the US Easystore’s in early 2020. This works out to $290 CAD factoring NY state tax, exchange and 2.5% cc conversion, $20.71/TB pre tax. This is it folks, we are in the zone

It's been a while since I looked at hard drives and not up to date on colours. Is this a SMR drive?

Lmao that is 100% incorrect. I have shucked Easystore, Elements and MyBook.

Bit the bullet. Cancelled my single unit from Amazon and will wait for this pair to arrive from BH. Hopefully they do a better job with packaging than what I've seen from Amazon! I'm definitely in for ~20/TB!

Nothing over 8TB on Western Digital is SMR.

That's before tax. After tax you get ~292. BH is 260 after everything.
