Birds Eating Stucco

Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop birds from eating stucco?

I've got an investment property that over the last two years (especially in Spring and Summer) is getting destroyed by birds eating the stucco and making nests. I've had a company fill the holes but the birds return and make new holes.

I've seen stuff in the US that is bit more lethal than what we have in Canada but wondering if anyone has any suggested products or solutions?

We have the same problem with our house... and no solution. If stucco was done with a proper wire mesh, vs only Styrofoam, it would probably keep them out. Note to self, for when we have to finally redo it.

Oh didn’t know there were too approaching to doing stucco. Might be worth asking what the difference in quote will be going mesh or non-mesh. Thanks!
Yeah. Saw that. Not sure all the products they recommend are available in canada.

Depending on what type of birds they are, it may be illegal to harm them. For example, it is illegal to harm woodpeckers in Canada.
The ideas to scare away birds are probably the best ones to start with. Things like hanging some old CDs on string so they spin and sparkle unexpectedly. As the article said, you want to keep the birds from landing on the walls in the first place.

A vast number of bird species are protected in Canada, either Federally or Provincially. Easier to assume that ALL birds are protected.

I had no idea.

I'm picturing a Gary Larson cartoon of birds eating a house with the homeowner saying "I always knew this would happen."

You need to put up an owl decoy somewhere high. Very effective and very simple solution to this problem. Also, I’m pretty sure anything lethal is highly illegal. It also makes you a douchebag. Not sure why you’d resort to those options right away.

Seems that's not the most effective approach long term although it might be a good place to start

Yeah, owls don't work and I know of someone in richmond hill that's been having this issue for years. Can't do anything about it.
