Birds of Paradise Plant? Where to buy?

Does anyone know where to buy a huge birds of paradise plant? Perhaps west Toronto and is a good deal?

Thanks!

Home Depot occasionally has them. Ikea also brings them in semi-regularly.
They go fast. Some smaller flower shops will have them too, but I find there is limited selection.

Definitely keep an eye out at your local Home Depot! I picked mine up last year in June with three fully sprouting stems for $39.99, and that was the best price I've seen compared to local greenhouses, IKEA, etc. Rona and Lowe's have also had a variety of plants, but I recall Home Depot having the best large plant selection.

If you are going to try garden centres do yourself a favour and try phoning first. Based on experience those places are like zoos due to limited access and everybody deciding to have a go at gardening while off work.

If you are expecting to get the Bird of Paradise with orange flowers (Strelitzia reginae) the stores don't seem to sell these anywhere. Which is a nuisance, since the commonly sold Bird of Paradise (as in @dreambreeze 's photo) is the white bird of paradise, which wants to be a tree. I have one, and it'll only last another winter indoors before it hits the ceiling. Also, white bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) are unlikely to bloom in Canada, indoors or outdoors. https://candidegardening.com/IE/plants/ ... fdb2ecd02d
