We tried Bitdefender but it was prone to bug on vista.

OP, did you want to make a rainbow post? :p

Got Bitdefender for 9.95$ (do not remember exact price) after 2 weeks of usage, uninstalled and turned back to AVG Free :)
Do not install that monster, especially if you plan to play games... I turned off almost all options, turned game mode on, still my games are freezing 5-10 seconds while playing at random times... I have Windows 7 Ultimate, intel pentium quad core cpu with 8GB of ram, 64 bit OS...
simple is the best...

You are probably the same people who have iPhones. Bitdefender is the best security on the market.

$20 is a good price for Kaspersky. I stocked up a while ago, so I'll pass this time, but thanks anyway, OP :)

By the way, even though Kaspersky says it's for up to three PCs, I've managed it to get it installed and activated for all five of my PCs at home. Just make sure you install & activate three, then wait a month before installing & activating the other ones.

Might want to switch to BitDefender after I go through all my Kasperskys- kind of getting annoyed with the CPU hogging.

"HOT HOT HOT"?? With this and the OP's other post about the Netbook (which formerly had so many exclamation marks I thought it was written by the spawn of Honest Ed), I'm guessing he's not on decaf.

$20 is OK for Kaspersky, but it's this price often; I've seen it recently for much cheaper with a PM. Warm deal.

OP, take it from a 10-year deals vet from SlickDeals and Fatwallet... post the deal, the price (oh, by the way, you missed that in your title), location, and leave it at that. The community will decide if it's hot. Or not.

PM KIS at FS or BB for teh savings. Since the key works on any version regardless of how long you wait to use it I might just stock up on a few.

Honestly, I'm +1 for Microsoft Security Essentials. If you have a legit copy of Windows (or don't) I don't see why not. I'd say 99% of the time viruses are self-inflicted like, emails, clicking random links (porn is safe but, random prize links, and random download sites are not). I find anti-virus doesn't really do much besides tell you, you have a problem and can't seem to ever fix it 100%. And even if it says it does, there always seems to be some key logger stuck somewhere tracking all your passwords anyway.

+1 for Bitdefender 2012. Got 2 licences (1 for me, 1 for other person) and since I don't really like it. My 3.5GHz Core 2 Quad never felt so sluggish since I installed this software.

Also, it is not for the power user AFAIK. There is tons of annoying crap with it that makes it maybe more appealing on casual PC users who feel more secure by having your AV program to popup all the time for no reason.

I'm thinking of uninstalling it too and buying a NOD32 licence when if I can find a deal for it.

I did not even last the trial period with Bitdefender 2012. Slowed my pc down too much, along with a couple other annoying issues. Not for me.

Bitdefender also completely slowed my PC down. I would never EVER touch Bitdefender again. I'm still mad I actually paid for that thing.

I've had positive experiences with Kaspersky though. I would recommend that a hundred times over Bitdefender.

Like others I tried Bitdefender a few years back. Thought it was awful. Resource hog and not user friendly.
Switch to Kaspersky and have found it runs perfectly. I have it on XP and Win7 with older AM2 7750 CPU and newer AM3's and don't find any difference. It doesn't slow down any of my PC's. You need to "learn" to use KIS to reach its full potential - but I guess that goes for anything.

20 bucks a pop for KIS is a good price considering the keys are usable with future versions (i.e. if you buy 2012, in the future you will be able to install 2013 and use the key included in the 2012 box to activate).

Used Kapersky for about a year, worked great. It expired a few months back and I bought Bit Defender for $10 from a promo they are running and my computer is extremely slow now. Time to uninstall it and buy Kapersky again.

I don't care. Do you have the iPhone 4? That is not an iPhone 4. I want the iPhone 4.

If you want Kaspersky, no need to get the latest product...just get last years and download the latest version. I always buy last years version of Internet Security in August (they always go on sale at Best Buy or FS for 19.99 just before school - one year got it for $15) then simply go to the Kaspersky site, download the latest version (ie. 2012) and activate with my 2011 key. Kaspersky encourages downloading the latest version...even sends me an email telling me to do so even though my licence is based on last years key.

EDIT: But if you have a licence that is expiring, don't reactivate with your new key until the previous licence is expired. Kaspersky told me activating early would mean losing the time left on my previous licence. Not sure if this is in fact the case or not, but did not want to find out the hard way myself, so I waited until the day my previous licence expired.

Unless it's an office environment why would anyone (except for totally non-technical people like my mother lol) purchase anti-virus?
Microsoft security essentials is excellent and is totally free.
