Nope, I'm just an average Joe and no need to flex / big up a story. I called up for a different purpose, i.e. to activate the card and make sure it's ok to cut up my former Blue card. It was then that they mentioned to me I can get a CLI, and that there is a note on my file for BT offer.

I had BMO Credit Cards and Debit Cards but now I have cancelled everything.
I am trying to apply for BMO Cashback and WE Cashback cards via the online site and GeniusCash but it keeps detecting my home address and then directs me to login to BMO of which I cannot log in.
Anybody have this problem and/or know of a solution or have any advice on how to proceed?
I have discussed with GeniusCreditCard and they are following up with BMO but no response, and BMO Branch and Phone Specialist - last time I checked were not helpful. Redirect hell.

I was able to apply for the World Elite Cashback by fudging some of the personal information, prior to it it would detect that I was an exiting debit card holder (But I had my accounts cancelled)
I want to apply for the regular Cashback but getting a Technical Error on the last page via Genius Cash
"There's a Technical Issue on our end"
any DP here?

Just want to confirm with someone, does the BMO WE MC still code Walmart Supercentre as grocery, as previously mentioned in this thread??
I confirmed on my CIBC Visa that Walmart Supercentre is NOT coded as grocery. The Walmart we go to has the "Supercentre" word right on the building so we know it's definitely a Supercentre!
I'm asking because BMO just offered to upgrade my BMO CB to a WE.

Since you commented on this thread, I will assume you mean the BMO CB WE MC and not the WE MC which is a card that earns BMO Points.psommerfeld wrote: ↑ Just want to confirm with someone, does the BMO WE MC still code Walmart Supercentre as grocery, as previously mentioned in this thread??

It has been known for some time that VISA will code groceries slightly differently than MCs. Nothing's changed, so your MC should still categorize Walmart Supercentre as grocery store.

Yes it does code Walmart Supercenter as Grocery. All MasterCards do. Visa does not.psommerfeld wrote: ↑ Just want to confirm with someone, does the BMO WE MC still code Walmart Supercentre as grocery, as previously mentioned in this thread??

Oh I see. So my CIBC being a Visa is the problem. Ok that's great news!
Yes it's the BMO CB WE MC that I'm being upgraded to.

I have the basic BMO cashback card and today I received an email saying "Congratulations, you have been approved for World Elite status, click the button at the bottom of this email to accept the upgrade offer to the Cashback WE". I was like what? My revenue falls short of 80k, and I spent like $200 a month on the card on average. I really don't know why their system gave me this offer. But since it's no fees for the first year, I'd have been a fool to turn it down.
It might be worthwhile to keep after if there indeed is free car assistance. I usually use the Scotia Amex Gold, but I do some shopping at Maxi and Walmart, and I usually have a bus ticket. So it might be worthwhile to eventually keep the two cards. I'll see.

While Wal-mart Supercenter has MCC 5411 (grocery stores/supermarkets), some FIs explicitly exclude it (CTFS Triangle, for example), presumably based on the merchant name. Luckily, as everyone has mentioned, BMO does not discriminate for this category.MountainView11 wrote: ↑ Yes it does code Walmart Supercenter as Grocery. All MasterCards do. Visa does not.
I also got the offer, and have similar spending (i.e. low, and even $0 for the last couple months as I'm milking some other cards for 10% CB SUB), so I'm guessing they're trying to get cardholders to upgrade, in hopes of getting the AF after FYF.Poutinesauce wrote: ↑ I have the basic BMO cashback card and today I received an email saying "Congratulations, you have been approved for World Elite status, click the button at the bottom of this email to accept the upgrade offer to the Cashback WE". It's nice that this is truly a pre-approved upgrade, and quick/easy to accept. And existing card immediately starts enjoying the new cashback rates while waiting for replacement card.
Does anybody have DPs around PSing from BMO CB WE MC back down to the basic MC (or perhaps getting SYF)? The amounts I spend don't justify cards with AFs, given the abundance of no-AF CB options. But I don't mind FYF. And I have no intentions of opening yet another bank account to get fee waivers...

The RSA is offered by DAA (Dominion Automobile Association), and it's not bad for some services. It'll be useful for battery boost, emergency fuel (up to 10L), flat tire, winching, and lockout stuff. However, the towing is where it sucks since all they'll cover is 10km. In that aspect, the CTFS WE MC's free Gold RSA is superior for sure.Poutinesauce wrote: ↑ It might be worthwhile to keep after if there indeed is free car assistance. I've had this card since when it used to offer 1.5%, and if you can get it for free, it's an excellent card to have. It's one of the rare cards that gives 180 days/+2 year purchase and extended warranty coverage when most other cards are 90 days/+1 year. Good for peace of mind. Enjoy your new card!

Interesting, looks like BMO is doing with the Cashback MC the same as they did with the AIR MILES MC last summer where they were sending out emails for upgrade to World Elite MC with FYF. I had the no-fee AIR MILES MC and rarely ever used it (only for the odd promo here and there that offered good return on spend) and received an offer to upgrade to AIR MILES World Elite MC in August 2021 and I accepted it. I enjoyed my 2 free long passes on a trip in October 2021!Poutinesauce wrote: ↑ I have the basic BMO cashback card and today I received an email saying "Congratulations, you have been approved for World Elite status, click the button at the bottom of this email to accept the upgrade offer to the Cashback WE". It's honestly a pretty good offer as you get for no credit check a TRULY free year of the highest cash back rates for grocery and transit and fairly decent rates for gas and recurring bills yes the monthly caps on the enhanced cash back may be annoying but its a free year so who can complain. Also BMO has the BEST cash back redemption in the market as you can redeem anytime as long as your cash back balance is $1 or more! I say truly free because yes, you can get the annual fee rebated on this card on an ongoing basis if you have the BMO premium plan checking account with a $6,000 minimum balance so there is a cost of opportunity there.
