Just came across this. Probably one of the better budget electric gooseneck kettles out there. Free shipping at $60, extra 10% off with coupon code "oberst10". Currently $55 on Amazon with lowest price at $42 according to CCC.

Note: there is a small plastic piece (BPA free I believe) inside that is never submerged, but is there to prevent water from splashing into the steam spout gauge thing. I was hesitant at first but looking at the reviews on Amazon and YouTube, decided to purchase it.

Ok so fair warning with ordering from Bodum.com. I ordered a french press there a month ago and still have yet to receive my order. From what I've gathered from forums online, they basically don't give a shit about their customers. Expect to wait over a month for this.

I'm not familiar with goose neck kettles. What's good about them as oppose to a regular kettle?

Bodum website is a bit weird...if I sign into pre-existing account the price jumps by about $4...

Agreed - the coffee cups that I ordered from them late-Dec arrived about a month later (late-Jan). I had also submitted a question to their support team at that time and only heard back a month later as well.. so buy at your own discretion.

Are you referring to the price when you view it in the shopping cart? I got confused by it too so I asked support:
"When an item is added to the basket, the price might increase, due to the tax addition, so the price shown is: item's price + tax charge. On the checkout page after selecting all the items you wish to purchase, you'll see the prices charged and the taxes separately, the same will be shown on the invoice, once the order is confirmed."

Oh... hmm yeah that's weird. I wanted to see if I would get the same thing if I logged into my account but I can't get in now - "The account sign-in was incorrect or your account is disabled temporarily. Please wait and try again later." and I can't reset my password either "We received too many requests for password resets. Please wait and try again later or contact no-reply@bodum.com."

I had this but returned it. It was very slow and the handle felt cheap & flexible which wasn't reassuring for holding boiling water, though was probably strong enough to be fair.

At this price it seems like a good deal.

For reference so you know the price point that represented an improvement I switched to the $160 fellow ekg costco.ca which is probably gone.

A question for you kettle experts.
We’ve had a couple of $10-20 electric kettles from Walmart. They work fine but the base quickly gets discolored. Like the metallic base is peeling away.

Is that normal and does it happen to better kettles like this Bodum? Thanks!

All gone for the time being. They were clearance priced at about $100 for the white EKG a week ago.

The Oxo pour over one is a good alternative if you can find a discounted one (typically BBB would be your best bet but I think it's been OOS for a while as well).

Metallic base peeling away? Do you have hard water? Could it be mineral deposits?

Try boiling pure white vinegar to the minimum water mark and see if it gets rid of the problem.

Gooseneck is nice....but, how do you make a kettle specifically for making coffee and not ensure some kind of temperature control? Unless you take it off the base before it finishes (like a regular kettle) this thing will hard boil your water and burn your beans. Bodum is a wannabe brand, they don't deserve your $.

There's quite a lot of heat loss with the pouring and when the water hits the grounds, so you don't have to worry about it being too hot. Your concerns should be the opposite, since you will struggle to maintain ideal temperatures if you start with water that is is below boiling.

I measured it coming out from my kettle several times. After a hard boil, it's usually around 99C when it hits the grounds - too hot! I boil my water, just don't let it get to a hard boil where the kettle turns itself off. The effect is water that is around 95C which is within the ideal 90-96C range.
