Booking hotels with aeroplan miles.

Anyone done this before? I know it's not the best bang for your buck but I quickly checked for 3 nights in Paris for a hotel needing 77k miles. I compared that with the price and with conversion it's $630 cdn. Which didn't seem to be as bad as I thought.

Any thoughts?

Aeroplan points are typically valued between $0.015 and $0.02 each. At $630, that's a $0.008 value. Pretty low.

Sometimes it can be challenging to use the points, so if you can use it for a hotel and you have no plans to use it for airline tickets, then it's better than leaving it sit. With all the credit card promotions nowadays, it can be easy to rack up quite a few points.

Sure it's not the best "point per dollar" ratio, but not using them yields you nothing.

Might be better to transfer them to another hotel specific program.
There are sometimes promotions that will allow you to do that with a bonus.
