Building a shed - water meter

hi all

Looking to build a shed next to my house where the water and gas meter are right now. Is this something I can do or do I need to consult with the enbridge and thr city?

My plan is not to move it and leave it accessible for them to come and take a reading

not only you have to leave access for reading, but you must leave access for maintenance, like meter replacement or anything else. Ask the utilities how close from meters you can build a shed, they have rules to respect

Your water meter is outside? Maybe you meant electrical meter.

Not saying it is not possible just not very probable, while I've seen them in crawl spaces and in cold areas they've always been located inside the home or crawl space unless it is down south.

As to your question if they ever have to replace the electrical meter and it is faulty and an arch flash occurs it can burn your shed down. Chances of this are slim, less so if your meter has already been replaced.

I just had Enbridge out to my place to discuss moving the gas meter. I wanted to relocate it in order to increase my deck size. Since it was not possible to move due to various reasons, cost and windows etc, the tech said I could build right up to it no problem. My deck will almost be touching it and he was ok with that.
I'm still on the turnip truck
