Business Cheques?

I've just opened up a small business account, however, the cheques are very expensive to order with the financial instituation. Any recommendations where I can get reasonably priced cheques that would be approved by the Cdn banks.
Thanks for your input!

I got mine from www.chequesnow.ca but it seems ASAP Cheques is even better in terms of pricing... the quality of Cheques Now is as good as the ones you'd get from the bank for twice as much.

Don't order from Staples. Last time I ordered from them, it took them over a month to find out they lost my order. They have a lot of process issues in figuring out where the order went....

Whats the difference between ordering from bank and from a 'third party' company (beside the price)?
Are banks once better or something? Its so much more expensive...

I have been using Versacheck for years, check out their website: www.g7ps.com

You can get forum #3001 (type of cheque paper) that is a business cheque size. Get like 1000 sheets of blank paper for $50.

Other options are programs like Quicken. ASAPCheques does have competetive pricing.

You CAN print cheques at home easily with Versacheck. Just buy or download the software, order the cheque paper, and that's all. Very easy.

You can get an MICR toner, but I always just used regular laser cartridge and never had an issue - since most these days is done digitally.

Resurrecting old thread here. Doing some research on ordering manual/handwritten two to a page business cheques. Here is sample pricing for me (as at May 2015):

200 = $103.48
400 = $123.53
600 = $139.59

2400 = $364.59
3000 = $439.59
4200 = $589.59

For example at 1800 cheques they are $0.1283 per cheque including shipping. That is far better than Davis & Henderson which is $0.1608 per cheque plus additional for shipping and even cheaper than ASAP Cheques which caps out at 800 cheques at $0.13625 per cheque.)

A few notes:
  • ASAP Cheques is cheapest for small orders (less than 800 cheques) but they do not have the hologram foil. They have other security features but the hologram is one of the most obvious features on cheques that make it look "legitimate". Whether it has any actual security value and whether they are worth the price premium are up to you to decide. EDIT: Apparently Davis & Henderson have discontinued hologram foil.
  • If you order large batches (1800+) and you absolutely need the hologram, then Print & Cheques Now offer cheapest pricing. They are even cheaper than ASAP Cheques.
  • What one retailer sent me about holograms:
    Thanks for contacting us here at Cheque Depot in Vancouver. We do not add holograms to our Manual or Laser cheque products. Holograms are actually the poorest form of security feature that can be added to a cheque. Holograms are an "additional" post-printing application that only serve to drive the cost of the cheque product Up! Holograms are applied with heat after the cheque is printed and the hologram can be removed or repositioned with heat. If you use a cotton cloth over the cheque and apply a hot iron, you can remove or re-apply the hologram. We use only top-of-the-line cheque paper itself and by us the cheque printer at time of printing. All of these security features are listed on the back of the cheques themselves or under the FAQ section - Security Features - on the chequedepot.com website. Holograms are not a recommended security feature or a requirement under the Canadian Payment Association's cheque sorting guidelines. Please contact me directly if you have any further questions.
  • If you are ordering from Safeguard and you have Costco Executive Membership...it is slightly cheaper than if you just have Business Membership (which is what I quoted above).
  • I cannot be certain on the fees and shipping charges. Some of these companies do not make it clear. I did the best in listing out the pricing with what limited information is on their webpages.
  • For more information about CPA Standard 006 = http://www.cdnpay.ca/imis15/eng/FAQs/Ch ... tions.aspx
  • Most companies don't seem to pay to be CPA certified. They just say they are CPA Compliant...which means they follow the rules and guidelines set by CPA but don't pay the annual fee. The list of CPA certified printers are here: https://www.cdnpay.ca/imis15/eng/res/ns ... ogram.aspx

It is possible that they discontinued it for some banks. I ordered TD cheques a month ago and they still had the holograms. EDIT: D'oh. I just double checked...and I can see they don't have the hologram anymore. My mistake...I thought they had the hologram but the don't.

By the way, this is what one retailer sent me about holograms:

Definitely hands down best deal I got. I was deciding between asap and chequesnow. I chose chequesnow because of the service and quality. The designs looked better than asap. They were able to add my logo and make custom adjustments quickly. It would have cost me over $2,000 at the bank and got it under $800 for what I needed.

They even offer more security features than the banks such as the back fingerprint smudge. Don't order too many cheques because they will be obsolete in years to come!

Hi,

Sorry, I'm a newbie.
Can you print laser check with a MS Word template or you have to use Sage or Quickbook program?

Thanks

Awesome analysis! I need to purchase business cheques a few months back and went with 500 cheques from Safeguard. Their price for the quantity was untouchable by the competition. I am very satisfied with my purchase. 500 cheques will last me an eternity but now I feel like I don't have to ration my cheques and can use them whenever I like.
