Buy or Pass - 2018 Land Rover Velar

Hi,

Getting a good deal on a 2018 Land Rover Velar however I noticed the owner got his first oil change at 36K km, when the dealer recommended interval is 26K km. The second oil change was done on time.

The car currently has 75K km on it. I have seen all of the other service records - nothing of concern except this.

Can this have any long term implications?

Oil change interval at 26,000km Face Screaming In Fear

Sorry. High maintenance car should have more frequent oil change interval. No more than 20,000km, imo.

I ‘baby’ mine and change oil at 7500km. I hope you have sizeable contingency funds for this vehicle.

Even properly maintained I would never consider a Range Rover.

26k OCI??? Hell no. I wouldn’t buy Land Rover ever. Change oil every 5000-7500km. These land rovers are heavy, engines do lots of work. The risk of oil degradation leading to engine seizing. With trend of ever improving fuel economy on ICE engines requiring thinner oil. I wouldn’t even trust 10k OCI.

yes it can have, but biggest problem is 2018, its first model year basically.
For haters Land Rover is actually not the same as Ford era one, they do have some issues though.

Lol so 75k and this ride has had maybe 3 oil changes in its life.

Why is this even a question?

Range Rovers Sport are stolen through tailgate harness cut mostly.
The issue isn't just about theft. It's the service from dealerships. Imagine waiting 6 months+ for spare parts LOL! That's what budget ballin gets you.

Why even consider a Land Rover? Biggest POS you can get, it's so unreliable.

Reminds me of the BMW engines opened up at 100,000KM after 4 oil changes. Sludge central.

I know eh - back when growing up even 5k you HAVE TO get it done. Now 10k synthetic seems ok. Even on BMW everyone (dealership, after market oil-change specialist - charge more thant stealerships!) everyone recommends 12k

Forget Land Rover.

Buy a Ford Explorer and pretend it is Land Rover.

When the Explorer gets old, there will be many cheap parts available because it is used as a police car.

This is a deals site, Land Rover at any price is not a good deal (unless a classic).

the only reliable new land rover so far is defender but in 4 cyl version/ p300.
But as stated before you can get Velar if price is super low and/or your handy.

You can only lease a Land Rover, even that expect to go to the shop a lot. I knew someone got one and it broke down on the way home from the dealership on day 1.

Yes, there can be long term implications. But it could be ok too.

If an issue does crop up that’s engine related there’s an extremely high likelihood of having a warranty claim denied. Not following the maintenance schedule is a strong reason for denying a warranty claim.

For this reason alone I would personally pass.

Granted the probability of an issue ocurring later is probably fairly low (LandRover reliability aside), the repair bill is going to be very high should it occur. Not worth the risk or aggravation.
