Buying an EV car

I'm a bit bummed out that Tesla 3 doesn't qualify for the 5k federal rebate anymore.

I wish Chinese EV cars were here since EV is still kinda early and prices aren't cheap. Pump prices make me feel uneasy.

Would you suggest an EV car, and i not a Tesla 3 which would you recommend? It would be mostly for commuting for myself.

I'm guessing you can't really negotiate prices much anymore holding a carcostcanada document in hand?

There's a 80000 page thread you should probably ask this question in...

I recently bought a Polestar 2. I guess that counts as a Chinese EV? But nonetheless it is also not cheap, and it did not qualify for iZEV either.
Maybe look at the Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Kona, or VW ID4 if you want cheaper EVs that qualify for iZEV.
Cheaper EVs are available in Canada, but below Tesla Model 3's price, none of them are designed like traditional family sedans. They are either some really small compact car, SUV, or new style hatchback. That was my biggest issue.

Polestar 2 is a Chinese brand EV (Geely) which is also made in China and there isn't a long waiting list for. I highly recommend against choosing FWD in a more powerful EV (poor traction when flooring it).

Nope. You are lucky if they don't pile on BS doc fees and services on top of MSRP. Let alone letting you have lower than MSRP.

I would buy a Corolla Hybrid ASAP if you are sensitive to high gas price. We are having severe supply chain issue now since Russia invaded Ukraine. And I don't see any way out of this situation unless Ukraine stay in the hands of the west (which at this point, I say chances of that is slim to none).

Since we can't retract our economic nuclear option against Russia otherwise, all resources in Ukraine and Russia belongs to China and India which means we will see hyperinflation that west probably have ever seen ever.

We are screwed. Get used to it. I don't see our government is smart enough to unlock our resources to offset lost of Russia/Ukraine because you know, climate change.

When Elon is calling for massive increase in oil and gas extraction, you know we **** up.

Higher energy prices helps sell EVs, I guess Elon can see the bigger picture.

Oil and gas is used for mining cobalt so EV battery manufacturing would also be impacted. This is going to affect him more than the average person. Maybe Elon should think of more sustainable ways to conduct his business instead of requesting more resources and more harm to our environment .
Sustainability is a nice to have but not when you surrender of your financial and physical security for it. Chinese is way smarter than us on this front.

Hyperinflation and following recession will make cost of green movement way harder to swallow.

And don't get me on the dumb ass move of removing nuclear power off the table. Like decommissioning Pickering plant in 2024-2028. You want cheap electricity to get people to charge their cars but don't continue to invest in cheap electricity and follow the same misstep France and Germany did that partially responsible for the Ukraine crisis.

Elon clan will become the emperors of Mars someday. Something about the way he see the civilization that transcends his own life time. What a huge picture kinda of guy.
