The “cold” emoji

I just tried to use the emoji for “cold”, the one with the face showing teeth and the mouth straight across as if shivering. It is the emoji at the second column and second row.

Instead I get a smiling face emoji with no teeth as follows, not conveying cold.

Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes

It seems that emoji sets are not standardized (analog: character fonts) and what is displayed depends on the (emoji) package being used. It seems that RFD uses "emojione" while most people are familiar with twitter emojis [for instance].

I don't know which emoji (<whatever name>.svg) you inserted, it was converted to emoji 1F601.svg from emojione -- disregarding capital letters, there are different images for the emoji called "1f601.svg":

Code: Select all

Emojione: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Emojione_1F601.svg
Twemoji: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Twemoji_1f601.svg
Twemoji2: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Twemoji2_1f601.svg
etc.

Emojipedia entry for "cold face" emoji (1f976.png or 1f976.svg): https://emojipedia.org/cold-face/

Probably what RFD posters have to do to get emojis to display what the posters intend to convey is just use emojis compatibles with the package (emoji set) being used by RFD (it seems to be emojione from joypixels -- or is it a free open source clone?)

As a reference "Emoticons (Unicode block) -- Wikipedia": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticons_(Unicode_block)

@TomRFD provided an explanation about this issue with emojis to @TheImp in the thread titled What is going on with emojis?

Just a wild guess.

The list or RFD emojis available for use is quite small
(Based on what appears when you click on / activate a Reply Box )

26 options

And when clicked on as shown, they certainly don’t all match up with what is posted (darn )

Additionally ... not all emojis you have access to via your computer (100+ options) post when added to an RFD reply either

Generally speaking, it works ok ... but ya it would be nice if more things worked, or were more clearly presented as to availability

Completely remove emojis and only use ASCII art.
