Which cabin filter to buy

Buying brake pads from rock auto and decided to get some filters too to compensate for the shipping charges.

From this list, with what cabin filter would you go with? (click "view original size" to see the brands and prices).

I believe you can only get the Wix or the Bosch to get combined shipping. Products with the little truck besides it.

Can't really go wrong with most of these. Bosh, ACdelco, Hengst, Wix, Mahle are all good. Multilayer Bosh if you want to spend more. I tend to avoid made in China charcoal filters after huge fiasco with medicak masks recall because of carbon particles in lungs ( big recall Canada wide last spring).

Any point going with the Bosch HEPA? How about the Champ or even the UAC filter, they seem to be the most popular? Otherwise go with ACDELCO for the best quality/price?

Last time I bought Pronto but they don't seem to be carrying it anymore. It was only 7.65

I've used a Bosch HEPA filter before. Not much difference that I noticed.

While you're at this with RockAuto, pick up some windshield wipers as well.

Do they still have discount codes or free shipping? I can't seem to figure out where to put my discount code? I think I have a 5% off.

Surprisingly my windshield wipers are still amazing even after 6.5 years and 70km.

And I think the other person was right. If I don't select either the Bosch HEPA or Wix, the shipping is going through the roof. So I might just buy the Bosch HEPA to be cheaper. A bit annoying really that shipping kills some deals.

I have ordered Denso and Wix brand of cabin air filters for my Toyota in the past and found the Wix brand to be the best. I have also tried the FRAM ones from Canadian Tire before but Wix is top pick based on personal experience of 2006 Camry, 2007 RAV4, 2011 Camry, and 2017 RX350.

I buy the Bosch ones myself. I like the "hospital smell" they give off when they are new, lol. Some people specifically dislike them for that reason, but either way it goes away in a short time. I can't say that they are any better or worse than other ones but then again who can really say any is better than nothing? lol I'm sure being HEPA rated it's good for something but given a car environment is one with windows and huge doors, compared to the airspace in the vehicle, cabin air filters have always been of questionable functionality to me.

The 5% codes are generic and can be used over and over. I think they do expire after some months but you can use any recent code you find on the intarwebs including here on RFD where tons of people post them. Never make an RA order without using the 5%. I've never seen any free shipping to Canada on RA, ever though.

That's not surprising. They should last 10 years at least. RFDers are crazy folks that go through these crutches like crazy (and drink wiper fluid like their life depended on it), but really if you use wipers properly (which is basically very seldom, with treated glass), and have a garage to put the car in (so less UV damage), a decade plus is what you should be getting.

Yes that's how the shipping works on RA-you have to fool with it to minimise warehouse locations as the part costs can be deceiving--if a cheaper part has to ship out of another warehouse, the shipping can make it more expensive than a more expensive part located in the same warehouse as your other part(s).

Get any of them. It's a cabin filter. Doesn't really make much difference for a car interior.

I'm blind, I just can't see where to put the 5% off code. I have the code. Help please?

Try this one:
194969300140530118

It's the latest one left in this thread (which you can refer to in the future):
rock-auto-coupon-2138847/17/

Again the codes are not unique, and so can be used by anyone, used multiple times, etc. until expiry. RA doesn't really expect anyone to checkout without a code so you could say the prices shown on their site are actually 5% over what they really are "supposed to be"

Edit: Sorry read that post wrong, the guy below me has your answer.

You place the code in the box labelled "How Did You Hear About Us?". Should see the discount on the summary screen.

Ohh crap sorry I totally read that wrong, didn't realise he didn't know where to put the code. Yep that would cover it!

I go with 3M.

A true RFDer would buy a high quality furnace filter, cut it down to shape and use it as a cabin filter. Since car filters are small you can get many out of a furnace filter.

Been doing it for years no problem.

How well do they seal around the edges, so that the air is forced to go through the filter instead of around the sides?

I cut to exact same size as stock, have not notice any issues with seal, if you are worried just change it more often since it cost so little. I change mine quarterly the same time I change the furnace filter. If it's good enough for my house it's good enough for the car, lol.

I guess it depends on how the seal around the sides of the filter works; some might have a supportive plastic frame, but the main concern is that air leaks around the sides of the filter media and it doesn't end up filtering much of the air that it's supposed to be filtering.
Not much point in having filter media that doesn't get air forced through it :)
