Can anyone explain Fit4Less's math here?

I am trying to pay for 1 year in full, this way I can reap the benefits of cash back plus not have to give my banking information. However, the math is not checking out. According to my calculations.

2 weeks = $11.99 + Tax
1 Month = $11.99 x 2 = $23.98 + Tax
1 Year = $23.98 x 12 = $287.76 + Tax
Annual Cleaning Fee = $287.76 + $44 = $331.76 + Tax
Total + Tax = $374.88

Why are they charging me $401.99? Am I tripping out?Image

There are 52 weeks in a year. You only counted for 48 weeks….

2 weeks = $11.99 + Tax
1 Year = $11.99 x 26 = $311.74 + Tax
Annual Cleaning Fee = $311.74 + $44 = $355.74 + Tax
Total + Tax = $401.99

Wow fit4less increased their prices so much and now there's a cleaning fee? I remember when fit4less black card was just shy of $300 like 4 years ago for a year membership.

Almost makes me want to consider other gyms after everything opens up fully but I suspect they all increased to make up for lost revenue

Lol. 12 bucks a month is unreasonable?!

A year on the basic plan is now about $225 after taxes. Not quite $12/month

I'm not saying it's unreasonable, it's just a bit surprising prices increased by over 25% in a matter of 4 years when the service hasn't really changed (maybe more locations were added). I'm just saying at over $400/year, I'd start considering another, bigger gym franchise with better or more equipment. Atleast that was the case when I was shopping around for gyms a few years ago. I've been an advocate for fit4less for years since I think their locations are plentiful in the GTA and they get the job done. It's probably still a good price in comparison to everything else right now but I also wouldn't be in a hurry to join the gym yet until this pandemic thing has fizzled out.

I just think that people would understand that it takes money to operate a business. These gyms are housed in large commercial spaces with large commercial rents. I'm surprised that a membership costing less than 50c a day would seem excessive.

Goodlife doesnt own most of the land their gyms are located on, so even if the service doesn't change, commercial rents do increase along with property taxes (property tax is the responsibility of the tenant). I don't think 25% over 4 yrs is outrageous, sure it sucks, but I see a lot of other stuff where inflation has hit much worse than 25% over 4 yrs. Goodlife is the 4th largest gym chain in the world (based on number of members) yet they needed to take out a huge loan from the government to survive during covid (not a interest free loan btw). I'm just glad I still have my $15 bi-weekly GL membership, seems like a great price compared to what I see others paying these days

Exactly!
Eco fee
Cleaning fee
Electricity fee
Fuel surcharge
Elevator inspection fee
Property tax increase fee
Fire extinguisher recharge fee
Disability access compliance fee
Fire alarm and sprinkler inspection fee
Staff room furniture replacement fund fee

Where does this stop? Businesses should not be hiding more and more business expenses from the sticker price, only to surprise us by slapping it on at the end. This should be illegal. Everything should be included in the price, and that goes for the sales taxes too, like they are in almost every other country.

I can tell you are sticker shocked because there’s so many contradictions in your post. Not many chain gyms around, if you are really counting each dollar PF is a tiny bit cheaper.

Seriously, a dollar a day doesn't seem that outrageous to me to use a facility and all of its equipment.

I think tacking the cleanliness fee on is a good strategy. It shows the cost of doing business right now, especially considering, in Ontario at least, how long gyms have had to be completely shut down. Not everyone will agree, but some will definitely see it as being up front about the price increase.
But where I'm confused is the last few.lines. Rolling facility maintenance and upgrades, and decreased equipment downtime into a cleanliness fee seems confusing. Can anyone explain the connection, maybe I'm missing it? The only one I can kind of understand is facility maintenance if it involves air filtration, but isn't that on the building owner more than F4L?
c'mon get happy!
