Can someone explain this BAM.A dividend payment

I received a December BAM.A dividend payment of $16.70 on January 6, 2022 for 100 shares. Then $16.70 was deducted as a DRIP. I don't understand how this small amount can DRIP a $70 something stock. I'm pretty sure you can't, and the dividend should have just been paid in cash. Even the number of shares did not change and stayed at 100. From my perspective, they gave me the $16.70, then they turned around and took it back.

They should credit them back to you in a couple of business days without any actions on your end. Not sure what brokerage is this from screenshot but so know for a fact that Scotia does this.
