Also wondering about opinions here on upgrading from a 3600x to a 5600x.orbitdesign wrote: ↑Is the 5600X a worthwhile purchase over the 1700x? Mostly used for gaming with a 1070 but I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the CPU before AMD finally switches to a new socket.

5600X is a significant upgrade. If your mobo supports it, I would upgrade to either the 5600X or 5600 non X (depending on the price difference)orbitdesign wrote: ↑ Is the 5600X a worthwhile purchase over the 1700x? I'd go with the X version but will I really notice a difference as I'm more GPU limited when playing games. I feel like I won't get much out of the upgrade, the only reason I'm thinking about it is just to increase the length of time between upgrades as a CPU after that will require me to upgrade the mobo and probably RAM, too.PerformingAzura wrote: ↑ 5600X is a significant upgrade. Not sure what your gpu is, but comparing the CPUs strictly, you'll be getting a huge improvement boost.orbitdesign wrote: ↑ I'd go with the X version but will I really notice a difference as I'm more GPU limited when playing games. Gaming with a 1070 on a 1080p monitor.PerformingAzura wrote: ↑ Not sure what your gpu is, but comparing the CPUs strictly, you'll be getting a huge improvement boost.
Ryzen wasn't really good until the 3000 series, and they become game charging in the 5000 series.
Ultimately it depends on what you're doing.

Depends on the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were actually cpu bottlenecked.orbitdesign wrote: ↑ Gaming with a 1070 on a 1080p monitor.

Okay, thanks and yea, the 1070 has been solid for 1080p gaming. I'll take a look.. seems like the 5600x might be worth while for another few years.PerformingAzura wrote: ↑ Depends on the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were actually cpu bottlenecked.
1070 is decently fast. It's probably just a tad slower than the 3050.

That would be my recommendation as well. If there's a gpu bottleneck, the new cpu won't make a big difference...rfdmademepoor wrote: ↑ Why don’t you use MSI afterburner+rivatuner to display the cpu usage % while gaming. If it’s constantly at 100% usage then I think that means you’re cpu bottlenecked. There are also a ton of YouTube videos doing comparisons with 1070 and your cpu of choice:1700x and 5600x.
More experienced people can chime in if I’m mistaken.

Yes, 5600G has 7 Vega graphics cores running at 1900 MHztmonies wrote: ↑ I believe the 5600G processor has the Radeon Vega 7 which is about the same level as Radeon HD 7770, Geforce GT 1030 and Geforce GTX 275 or Radeon HD 5850... which is equivalent of GFX cards from just about 10 years ago

3600 to 5600X is an upgrade, but unlikely to be worth the change. 3600 to 5900X could be worthwhile if you do heavy multithreaded tasks, or have a very high end graphics card and are having cpu limitations in games...otherwise I would just keep the 3600.
